London Barmerlea Book Sales Ltd. 1940 From the bookplate, we can see that this book belonged to Helge Loewenberg-Domp. She was a German musician and music (piano) seller of Jewish parents who escaped to the Netherlands before the war. She later went into hiding with her family, and survived the war. (Her brother died in the camps). She was one of the first to import Japanese pianos to the Netherlands. In the 1970's she was knighted to the Order of Orange-Naussau. Three years later, she founded the Helge Domp Foundation for Music for young musicians. She died in 2021.

Reliure en plein veau fauve, dos à nerfs orné du titre et de caissons fleuronnés or, plats ornés d'un décor " à la DU SEUIL ", nom frappé au premier plat ( " MARIE MARGUERITE MEYSSONNIER "), tranches mouchetées de rouge (reliure de l'époque). (dos frotté, coiffes en parties absentes, présence de tâches noires et d'auréoles sur les plats, trois coins légèrement frottés et un émoussé, présence d'une petite cerne claire angulaire et d'une cerne claire en bordure supérieure à de nombreux feuillets mais sans incidence sur le texte, coupures et marques de pliure à la première planche repliée, exemplaire rogné, présence de rousseurs peu soutenues, deux derniers feuillets des figures en partie détachés, petite galerie de ver au bas d'une cinquantaine de feuillets sans incidence sur le texte). Nouvelle édition, augmentée d'un second tome regroupant des oeuvres de Lazare Meysonnier ( " Théorie de la médecine " et " Traité des maladies vénéneuses "). L'édition originale est parue en 1615. Page de titre en rouge et noir. Édition illustrée d'une vignette de titre et de deux planches dépliantes anatomiques gravées par Spirinx, contenant plusieurs figures, et de 202 bois gravés (répartis sur six feuillets) représentant des plantes tirées de Matthiole, en fin d'ouvrage. L'ouvrage eut, dès sa première parution, un énorme succès, en raison du thème de la beauté abondamment traité au cours de l'ouvrage, notamment par des chapitres sur les poils, les oreilles, le teint du visage...En fin de volume on trouvera un chapitre sur les maladies extraordinaires, comme la mal d'amour, ainsi qu'un autre consacré aux maladies spirituelles. Provenance : exemplaire de Marie Marguerite MEYSSONNIER, avec son nom frappé au centre du premier plat, fille unique de Lazare Meyssonnier qui était docteur en médecine de l'université de Montpellier, conseiller et médecin du Roi puis de son altesse royale de Dombes. RARE.
