Édition originale de ce texte écrit à quatre mains et publié sous le nom de Constantin seul. Stendhal surnommait cet ami proche "Tantin", "Tantincons" ou encore "Constantin Porcelaine", en référence à son activité. Ils furent compagnons au cours du long séjour italien de Beyle commencé en 1836. La part des deux auteurs est désormais bien établie, grâce aux travaux de Sandra Teroni et Hélène de Jacquelot, publiés en préface de la réédition des Idées italiennes (Paris, Beaux-Arts de Paris, 2013). Plusieurs observations ajoutées par Stendhal sont parfois empruntées aux Promenades dans Rome ou à l'Histoire de la peinture en Italie. Stampless cover dated April 19th 1832; one page letter to Henry Graves 1806-1892 leading London printseller saying that he has "tried to procure you a ticket for Private View at the RA without success" but he may see many more members "on the varnishing days" suggesting Sir Edwin Landseer 1802-1873 "he being on the Council has 4. I have but 2 tickets" ending "Yrs truly in haste". One-side 8vo leaf with conjugate address leaf postmarked Lamb's Conduit Street. Corner of address stuck under seal. Cooper was groom to Sir Henry Meux and in 1809 unable to afford a portrait of the horse "Frolic" to which he was greatly attached bought an introduction to painting in oils. His master bought the resulting canvas and Cooper never looked back. Henry Graves was at that time in partnership with F.G. Moon and Thomas Boys. He engraved all the most famous pictures of his day paying Landseer a total of pounds sterling 50000 for copyrights alone and 20000 to the owner of Frith's "A Railway Station" for the painting the engraved plate and the list of subscribers. The descriptions that accompany these fine engravings of birds rabbits dogs and foxes were extracted from Bewick's History of British Birds and General History of Quadrupeds among others. Abraham Cooper 1787-1868 was a painter who specialized in animals and battle scenes in particular those showing horses. He apprenticed under the celebrated artist Benjamin Marshall contributed 189 engravings to Sporting Magazine and was elected to the Royal Academy in 1817. United Kingdom: Not published 1832. Autograph. Very good condition. Unbound. Signed by Authors. First Edition. Painter of Horses. Stampless cover dated April 19th 1832; one page letter to Henry Graves 1806-1892 leading London printseller saying that he has "tried to procure you a ticket for Private View at the RA without success" but he may see many more members "on the varnishing days" suggesting Sir Edwin Landseer 1802-1873 "he being on the Council has 4. I have but 2 tickets" ending "Yrs truly in haste". One-side 8vo leaf with conjugate address leaf postmarked Lamb's Conduit Street. Corner of address stuck under seal. Cooper was groom to Sir Henry Meux and in 1809 unable to afford a portrait of the horse "Frolic" to which he was greatly attached bought an introduction to painting in oils. His master bought the resulting canvas and Cooper never looked back. Henry Graves was at that time in partnership with F.G. Moon and Thomas Boys. He engraved all the most famous pictures of his day paying Landseer a total of pounds sterling 50000 for copyrights alone and 20000 to the owner of Frith's "A Railway Station" for the painting the engraved plate and the list of subscribers. OCLC No. 40107811 locates only five copies at institutions worldwide - two at the University of California and one each at Stanford University University of Maryland and Yeshiva University. ~N~ In 1937 when the essayist Abraham Coralnik died of a heart attack Yiddish speakers in the United States lost one of their most articulate guides. As a columnist for the New York newspaper Der Tog The Day during the 1920s and 1930s Coralnik moved effortlessly from discussions of Zionist politics to analyses of Marx and Plato to travelogues through the American heartland. As Europe exploded in anti-Semitism and American Jewish life continued its spectacular transformation into the land of promise and confusion Coralnik provided both insight and context for an immigrant community desperate to understand the changes taking place around it.
