Heschel 1907-1972 received s doctorate from the University of Berlin. In 1937 he was appoint Martin Buber's successor at the Erwachsenenbildung and the Juedisches Lehrhaus. A year later he taught breifly at the Warsaw Institute after being deported to Poland by the Nazis and then moved to England and began in London the Institute for Jewish Learning. In 1940 he moved to the US and taught at Hebrew Union College and the JTSA. �Heschel's lifework can be seen as consisting of two parallel strands: 1 the undertaking to study and interpret the classical sources of Judaism and 2 the endeavor to offer to his contemporaries an authentic theology which results from the application of the insights of the traditional sources to the problems and questions which the modern Jew has to face. �Rothschild EJ Slight wear to cover and small tear to spine missing dustjacket.
