Nouvelle édition augmentée, la première en deux volumes avec d'importantes tables, publiée à la demande du Chancelier. L'originale parut pour la première fois en 1676, elle fut poursuivie dans cette édition par René Le Comte pour les pièces justificatives pour la période 1676-1705, en outre la matière collationnée par Tessereau fut entièrement refondue pour cette nouvelle édition. Reliure en pleine basane brune de l'époque. Dos à six nerfs ornés de caissons et fleurons dorés, ainsi que de pièces de titre et de tomaisons de maroquin rouge. Toutes tranches mouchetées rouges. Dos défraîchis (absence de coiffes et manques de basane). Epidermures et coins émoussés. Ex-libris de l'époque contrecollé sur les contreplats. Source majeure sur l'histoire de la Chancellerie en France ; celle-ci, aussi ancienne que la monarchie, était constituée par le corps des chancelliers tels que le chancelier, le garde des sceaux, les grands audienciers, secrétaires du roi du grand collège, les trésoriers, contrôleurs, chauffe-cire et autres officiers (la chancellerie n'étant plus aujourd'hui que le ministère de la justice). Tessereau a réuni un ensemble de pièces précieuses pour l'historien sur les officiers de la chancellerie, leurs fonctions et prérogatives, sur les chancelleries diverses dans le royaume...
