Very good impressions of both etchings only state. Fine set with wide margins. Around 1655 Jacob van Ruysdael made two romantic paintings and several drawings of the jewish burial ground at Ouderkerk aan den Amstel near Amsterdam. The place was bought in 1614 by the Sefardic jews of Amsterdam the so-called �marranen� who needed a place to bury their deceased in the jewish tradition a �Beth-Chajiem�. The variety and exuberant style of the tombs reflects the different backgrounds of the Sefardic jews in Amsterdam Portugal Spain Italy in contradiction with sober graveyards of the Dutch jews. The foreign atmosphere inspired Ruisdael and Blooteling to these two beautiful etchings depicting three large tombs. The middle one � still to be seen at Ouderkerk � is the grave of �chacham� Izak Uziel born in Fez in Marocco who came to Amsterdam in 1615. He had great influence on the jewish community in the city and was the teacher of a.o. the printer and publisher rabbi Menasseh Ben Israel. unknown

View on the so-called Huis te Schagen as it supposedly looked in 1612. Drawing after a print by Rademaker. Some fishermen on a boat towards the foreground. The second boat more to the right in the print was not included in the drawing. The drawing is larger than the original print and the amateur artist added some vegetation in the foreground. Inscribed below in pencil: ""Huis te Schagen 1612"" and in pen and brown ink: ""Le Chateau de Tresnel en Normandie."" This inscription is crossed out with a pencil line. On the verso on the top with the same handwriting as the last inscription described: ""Anselme Seigneur de Tresnel"" also crossed out with pen and blue ink and further corrected below in: ""Huis te Schagen 1612."" unknown
View on the Kasteel Gunterstein with a long bridge on the left as it probably looked like in 1611. All around the pond surrounding the castle many figures. Some of these were only added in the drawing like the man with a wheelbarrow on the left foreground and the beautiful carriage led by horses on the right background. Inscribed below in pen and brown ink in two different handwriting: ""Oud Gunterstein"" and ""Le Chateau de Franqueville en Normandie"" the latter crossed out with a line in pen. On verso further inscriptions; in pen and brown ink: ""Robert Seigneur de Franqueville"" below in pen and blue ink: ""Huis Oud Gunter crossed out Gunterstein."" unknown

In pencil on bottom left: ""Huis ter Does"" in the middle in pen and brown ink: ""Le Chateau de Mauvoisin en Normandie pr�s de Rouen."" This inscription has been crossed out with some pencil strokes. Further on the verso other annotations; on the top the same handwriting in pen and brown ink: ""19 Anselme Seigneur de Mauvoisin""; in pen and blue ink: ""Huis ter Does"" and in pencil ""bij Leiden.""
