Holy Bible 1ST EDITION & 1ST PRINTING
Mack 2013. First Edition First Printing. Hardcover. New. Mack 2013. Softcover. First edition FIRST PRINTING. 768pp. 654 color illustrations 6-1/2x8-1/2". Book Condition: New/Fine.

From publisher: For their most recent work Holy Bible Adam Broomberg and Oliver Chanarin mined this archive with philosopher Adi Ophir’s central tenet in mind: that God reveals himself predominantly through catastrophe and that power structures within the Bible correlate with those within modern systems of governance. The format of Broomberg and Chanarin’s illustrated Holy Bible mimics both the precise structure and the physical form of the King James Version. By allowing elements of the original text to guide their image selection the artists explore themes of authorship and the unspoken criteria used to determine acceptable evidence of conflict. Inspired in part by the annotations and images Bertolt Brecht added to his own personal bible Broomberg and Chanarin’s publication questions the clichés at play within the visual representation of conflict. War Primer 2.
London Mack 2011. . First edition an altered artists' book number 68 of 100 copies signed by both artists on the front free endpaper; 4to 294 x 243 mm 11½ x 9½ in; 85 black-and-white photographs printed in offset each with a new photographic reproduction partially pasted over it by hand the final image with a screen printed red square new notes screen printed in red over the original text section; plain endpapers grey cloth-covered boards original titles stamped on spine in silver new titles screen printed in red on upper side starting at head near-fine; 176 xxivpp.
German poet and dramatist Bertold Brecht's Kriegsfibel War Primer was first published in 1955. Brecht's mistrust of the press imagery emerging from the Second World War led him to compose four-line poems which he juxtaposed with photographs sourced from newspapers and magazines many of which were from LIFE magazine as Brecht was living in the United States in exile from Nazi Germany. Broomberg & Chanarin concerned with the proliferation of imagery relating to the 'War on Terror' that began with 9/11 have taken copies of the 1998 first English edition of Brecht's War Primer as the starting point for this revised version. Keeping the original captions intact they have partially overlaid the original photographs selected by Brecht with contemporary imagery from both sides of the recent conflict drawn from online sources. The URL for each image is provided with a caption in a new set of notes screenprinted over the originals. Broomberg & Chanarin were awarded the 2013 Deutsche Börse Photography Prize for this work.
The Photobook: A History III p285. London, Mack, 2011. hardcover

Unpaginated with circa 180 pages with color and black and white photographic images throughout. 85 black-and-white photographs printed in offset each with a new photographic reproduction partially pasted over it by hand. War Primer 2 is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art and was awarded the Deutsche Börse Photography Prize 2013. BOOK CONDITION: Near Fine; a solid clean copy with black cloth reinforcement along title page gutter as issued showing some shallow bends to front cover that are only noticable on the cover verso. Overall a very solid clean copy of the rare limited 1st edition. SIGNED.

Originally released in 2011 as a limited edition hardback this book is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art and gained Adam Broomberg and Oliver Chanarin the 2013 Deutsche Börse Photography Prize. War Primer 2 appropriates the first English-language version of Bertolt Brecht's remarkable 1955 Kriegsfibel in which Brecht combined press photographs from the World Wars with four-line poems. Compiled intermittently over three decades Brecht's book was a visual and lyrical attack on war and its propagandists under modern capitalism. Shifting the critique to contemporary narratives perpetuated by the so-called 'War on Terror' Broomberg and Chanarin strategically overlay the pages of Brecht's War Primer with images culled from the internet and generated by the actors propagators and reporters of the contemporary conflict. BROOME ADAM
The Cambridge Murders
London: Geoffrey Bles 1938. First Edition. Hard Cover. Dust Jacket. First UK Edition. The book itself is the correct Geoffrey Bles first issue with red cloth boards with white lettering and publisher's device on the spine and the title in white on the front cover. A near fine copy. In the VERY RARE D/W priced 7/6 net to the inside flap as called for. The D/W is a lovely example in the photographic style its only minor fault being the number 13 written in biro at the top left hand corner of the back panel. Quoting from the Spectator review of the time: "The fact that a Professor begins lecturing 'to the accompaniment of a hundred pens and pencils scratching over the surface of as many note-books' suggests to me that Adam Broome hails from Girton. Be that as it may two West African students are shot and an extraordinary pseudo-Gothic or Late-Temperance-Tract style of verbal architecture is maintained throughout. For anyone who wants a novel view of . East Anglia this book is a snip". Rare. Geoffrey Bles hardcover

London: Geoffrey Bles 1929. First Edition. Hard Cover. Dust Jacket. First UK Edition. Publisher's red boards with black lettering to the spine. Boards really bright and clean. Pages tanned due to the poor quality of paper used. Overall a VG copy. In the rare price-clipped D/W which has a couple of imperceptible edges tears the one with an accompanying crease to the top edge neatly repaired on the verso. The D/W is also in VG condition which unusually is not darkened to the spine and is an attractive example. The first copy of this book that I have seen for more than 20 years. A Chief Inspector Bramley mystery. Rare in First Edition. Photographs/scans available upon request. Geoffrey Bles hardcover

Broome, Adam [James, Godfrey Warden]
The Black Mamba: A West African Mystery Novel
London: Geoffrey Bles 1936. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/Very Good. 0x0x0. First edition. Mottled staining on front and rear board jacket lightly rubbed with small sticker on jacket spine jacket price clipped. 1936 Hard Cover. 288 pp. A pseudonymous mystery novel by British government official Godfrey Warden James whose fiction often discusses the experiences of British men tasked with the administration of the Protectorate of Sierra Leone. His other works include Crowner's Quest The Island of Death and The Cambridge Murders. From the flap: "Mammy Green whose ostensible trade was that of a dealer in native produce in Edwardsville Old Guinea was in point of fact assumed to be at the bottom of most of the unpunished crimes in the Colony. It was even rumoured that the nefarious activities which had earned her the nickname of 'The Black Mamba' had been so profitable as to enable her to send two sons to Cambridge and a daughter to one of the most fashionable girls' schools in the South of England. In any case Stanley Carruthers on his first appointment to the Coast wasted no time in falling into the trap which she cunningly laid for him for 'The Black Mamba' was something of a specialist in dealing with young men.
