Sie besteht aus fünf Büchern, weshalb sie im Judentum auch chamischa chumsche tora ?Die fünf Fünftel der Tora' genannt wird. Die griechische Bezeichnung (Pentáteuchos), das "Fünfbuch", ergab den in der Fachliteratur gängigen Begriff Pentateuch. In deutschen Bibelübersetzungen reformatorischer Tradition bezeichnet man diese Schriftengruppe als die fünf Bücher Mose. ? Die Tora bzw. der Pentateuch ist im Hebräischen und im Griechischen in fünf Bücher eingeteilt. Diese Einteilung war eine praktische Konsequenz aus der begrenzten Größe der antiken Schriftrollen aus Papyrus oder Pergament. Aber darüber hinaus erfolgte die Verteilung des Stoffs auf fünf Büchern auch nach inhaltlichen Kriterien, wie man an der unterschiedlichen Textmenge sieht: Das Buch Genesis ist mehr als doppelt so lang wie Levitikus. Insofern haben die fünf Bücher ihr je eigenes Profil. Diese werden im Hebräischen nach den ersten hebräischen Worten des jeweiligen Textes (Incipit), in der griechischen Septuaginta nach ihren zentralen Themen benannt; in der Lutherbibel und anderen evangelischen Bibelübersetzungen werden die Bücher nach dem traditionellen Verfasser als 1. bis 5. Buch Mose bezeichnet. In der Fachliteratur sind die lateinischen Buchtitel üblich. ? Als literarisches Werk ist die Tora ein komplexes Gebilde: der Leser stößt hier auf die Spuren einer langen Entstehungsgeschichte. Trotzdem ist es möglich, den jetzt vorliegenden Endtext als planvolle Komposition zu lesen ("close reading"). Die Tora macht einen großen erzählerischen Bogen: Sie beginnt in der Genesis mit der Schöpfung und der Urzeit (1-11). Es folgen die Wanderungen der Erzeltern: Abraham und Sara, Isaak und Rebekka, Jakob mit Lea und Rahel. Die Josefsgeschichte (37-50) führt die Familie Jakobs nach Ägypten. Mit dem Beginn des Buchs Exodus ist die Familie Jakobs zum Volk der Israeliten geworden. In Ex 2 wird Mose geboren, der bis zu seinem Tod in Dtn 34 die Hauptperson des Pentateuch ist, der insofern auch als Biografie des Mose (mit Vorgeschichte) gelesen werden könnte. Mose führt die Israeliten mit göttlicher Hilfe aus ägyptischer Sklaverei in die Freiheit (1-15); sie wandern durch die Wüste zum Berg Sinai. Hier erfolgen umfangreiche Offenbarungen der göttlichen Weisung, vor allem die Zehn Gebote (20, 2-17), aber auch das Bundesbuch sowie Anweisungen über den Bau eines transportablen Heiligtums (Mischkan) und die Einsetzung des Kultpersonals (Kohanim). Das Buch Levitikus ist geprägt von kultischen Stoffen: der Opfer-Tora (1-7), der Reinheits-Tora (11-15), dem Ritual des Versöhnungstags (Kap.16). Es folgt in 17-26 das Heiligkeitsgesetz; ein Kapitel über Gelübde und Zehnt schließt das Buch ab. Das Buch Numeri enthält kultische Materialien. In Kap 10 erfolgt der Aufbruch vom Sinai; die Erzählung der folgenden Wanderung durch die Wüste und der ersten kriegerischen Aktionen im Ostjordanland ist untermischt mit kultischen und juristischen Weisungen. Das Buch Deuteronomium enthält die Abschiedsreden des Mose. Um einen zentralen juristischen Teil (12-26) legt sich als Rahmen eine Art Predigt des Mose, in der dieser vor seinem Tod für die Befolgung der Gebote wirbt. Innerhalb dieser Mosepredigt werden die Zehn Gebote wiederholt und das Schma Jisrael mitgeteilt, zwei zentrale Texte, die dem Gesetzeskorpus vorgeschaltet sind. ? / ... Das 4. Buch Mose, auf Hebräisch bemidbar, Bemidbar oder bamidbar, Bamidbar, auf Altgriechisch Arithmoí, deutsch ?Zahlen?, genannt, ist das vierte Buch des Tanachs wie auch des Alten Testaments und damit das vierte Buch der beiden Fassungen des biblischen Kanons. Die in Zitierungen häufig gebrauchte lateinische Bezeichnung ist Numeri. Es handelt vom Volk Israel in der Wüste und wurde in 36 Kapitel unterteilt, wie es sich seit dem Mittelalter etabliert hat. Title translates to “Aggadah and Homiletics: Including Articles, Rulings, and Elucidations on the Legends. ” Rabbi Zevi ben Moses Lass (b. 1849) , was born in Girkalnis, Kovno Province. He studied under his uncle before joining the Perushim of Eisiskes for three years. He then went to Vilna and was ordained by Rabbi Isaac Elhanan Spektor and Rabbi Isaac Harif of Slonim. He was appointed the rabbi of Jieznas in 1871 but due to the financial instability of the community, he immigrated to New York in 1884. There he served as a preacher, he was known as the "Yezner Rav" and as a kashrut supervisor under the authority of Chief Rabbi Jacob Joseph for twelve years. In the introduction to this book, Rabbi Lass writes, "'Originally, [when I first came to New York, ] ...I planned to publish [from my ms. The] section of responsa [on gittin called Geresh Yerahim] because there within are many important matters of practical halakhah. However, after my wheel [of fortune] turned I was left without any support and not one penny remained in my hands. I concluded that I should [instead] publish the section on aggadah and homiletics [i. E. , Ateret Zevi]. It is my hope that this section will attract many of my brethren among the children of Israel in this land to support me and my household, and also so that I will be able to disseminate from my wellspring all my novel interpretations in halakhah, i. Sermons on the weekly Torah portion. R. Judah Leib Lazarov (1875-1939) was born in Kovno Province, Russia and studied in Jewish centers such as Telz, Mir, Volozhin and Radun. Prior to moving to the United States in 1898 where his career as a teacher flourished, he worked as a preacher in Lithuania. He was renowned for his scholarship and instrumental role in founding Hebrew schools. Lazarov took pains not to refer to himself as a Rov, i.
