Dating back to Roman and Byzantine times, Jews thrived on Turkish soil, finding refuge in the tens of thousands after their expulsions from Spain, Portugal, and Italy in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. Joel Zack and his team have performed an important cultural service, retrieving for posterity rich testimony of the Jewish architectural heritage in Ottoman and modern Turkish History.

JONAS (Emile) compositeur français né à Paris le 5 mars 1827 et mort à Saint- Germain-en-Laye en 1905. Il reçu le second Grand Prix de Rome en 1849 pour sa cantate « Antonio » et fut également directeur musical à la synagogue portugaise et dirigea des musiques d’harmonie.
Lettre autographe signée à Gustave Halphen. 29 janvier 1857. 1 p. in-8.
Après l’envoi d’un autographe musical de François Bazin auteur de « Maître Pathelin », il lui demande d’être patient pour l’envoi « d’autres griffes de compositeurs », et lui signale que « Mr Panseron, (professeur de chant et compositeur français, 1795-1859) ainsi que je le prévoyais, me demande une copie de son manuscrit ... ».
