Bastonata la madre per costringerla a tacere, i violenti hanno tratto a forza la giovane sulla via a caricata su un carro che subito è dileguato nel buio. La ragazza è stata trovata il mattino dopo dai carabinieri, in aperta campagna." "Pellegrinaggio a nuoto nel deserto. A FINE LITHOGRAPHED MEDINA Medina al-Munawwara ali sâhibhâ afzal al-tahiyya. It shows Medina city with its building and walls besides its environment. Medina is the capital of the Al-Madinah Region in Saudi Arabia. At the city's heart is al-Masjid an-Nabawi 'The Prophet's Mosque' which is the burial place of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. Medina is one of the three holiest cities in Islam the other two being Mecca and Jerusalem. Medina was Muhammad's destination in his Hijrah migration from Makkah and became the capital of a rapidly increasing Muslim Empire under Muhammad's leadership serving as the power base of Islam and where Muhammad's Ummah Community composed of both locals and immigrants from Muhammad's original home of Mecca developed. Medina is home to three prominent mosques namely al-Masjid an-Nabawi Quba Mosque and Masjid al-Qiblatayn 'The mosque of the two Qiblas'. Very Good Arabic Original b/w lithographer print of Mecca. 21,5x17,5 cm. In Arabic. 1 p. [A FINE LITHOGRAPHER MECCA] Mecca al-Mukarrama Zad Al-Lah Sharifhâ al-ayyum al-qaima. It shows Mecca city with its building like Kaba, and walls besides its environment. Mecca is a city in the Hejazi region of Saudi Arabia. The city is located 70 km (43 mi) inland from Jeddah, in a narrow valley 277 m (909 ft) above sea level, 340 kilometres (210 mi) south of Medina, its population in 2012 was 2 million, although visitors more than triple this number every year during the ?ajj ("Pilgrimage"), held in the twelfth Muslim lunar month of Dhûl-Hijjah. It is the birthplace of Muhammad, a cave 3 km (2 mi) from Mecca was the site of Muhammad's first revelation of the Quran, and a pilgrimage to it, known as the Hajj, is obligatory for all able Muslims. Mecca is home to the Kaaba, one of Islam's holiest sites and the direction of Muslim prayer, and thus Mecca is regarded as the holiest city in Islam.

Carawane nach Mecca.
Vienna 1855. Oblong folio 25 x 40 cm. Matthias Trentsensky printed by E. Sieger Loose leaves in a later paper folder. With 19 of 24 numbered leaves containing about 135 lithographic pen-drawings of people animals equipment & gear and goods from a caravan travelling to Mecca each drawing including a base so that one can cut them out paste them on card stock stand them up and arrange them in three-dimensional scenes. Lacking leaves 1-5. ll. 6-24 of 24. All but the first five leaves of a very rare lithographic print series issued in parts. Most copies were probably cut up and perhaps coloured by children and destroyed in play. The human figures to be cut out include Turkish Arabic African and Near Eastern men and women black and white in Islamic clothing some of the men with a variety of firearms spears daggers pipes prayer rugs and other gear and goods. There are also camels horses and donkeys often with their gear for riding or for carrying loads. The wild animals include wolves a hyena and an ostrich. Inanimate objects include containers for water an incense burner baskets chests barrels camel saddles and much more. The series must have provided many children and adults with their first notion of Islamic society and culture and is rich in authentic details.With an occasional pencil mark. Lacking leaves 1-5 but otherwise in remarkable good condition. In Ottoman script (Old Turkish with Arabic letters). 103 p., b/w plates (19 unnumbered b/w plates and 1 map). First edition of this extremely rare first-hand and historically significant eyewitness account of the Syrian and the Suez Canal Operations during the Great War by an Ottoman soldier and statesman. Erden describes in this book his return to Istanbul after his military attaché duty in Paris and his departure to Damascus to join the 4th Army in Syria under the command of Cemal Pasha (1872-1922). He then discusses the Arab Revolt in Hejaz and its possible effects on the Ottoman Empire (The Arab Uprising was initiated by Sharif Hussein bin Ali in June 1916 during the Great War with the aim of creating an independent and united Arab state comprising of Aden in Yemen and Aleppo in Syria against the Imperial Ottoman). After disclosing his views and the actions of the army in the region, he goes on to describe Jerusalem, the Suez Canal, and the wars that took place there. Erden gave new information on the reasons and results of the Canal operation, the condition of the Turkish army along Palestine and Syria fronts, the relations among the Turkish staff, and the nature of the Arab revolt through his views and observations in Egypt, Palestine, and Syria fronts accumulated as he was Cemal Pasha's chief of staff. Erden was a Turkish soldier and war historian. After graduating from the Military Academy in 1903, he worked in the units and headquarters in Yemen, as the staff of the 3rd Corps in the Balkan War and as the Paris Military Attaché. During the Great War, he served as the Chief of Staff of the 4th Army within the entourage of Admiralty Minister Cemal Pasha in Syria. Özege 16174. Kursun p. 51.

2 vols., 8vo., First Edition thus, with portrait frontispieces (one in colour), coloured or tinted plates, woodcut illustrations in the text, plans on japon (2 folding; one double-page) and large folding coloured map, half-title of first volume lightly spotted; original black cloth, upper boards blocked in gilt, gilt backs, red tops, black endpapers, neatly rebacked with old backstrips laid down, a very good, bright, clean, crisp copy. Sold from an institution with its bookplates on front paste-downs and free endpapers, and neat blind stamp on titles. 'It will thus be seen that this edition is very complete, as it has the various appendices from all the past editions. There is also a full index. As in the second edition [1857] there are thirty-four chapters instead of the original thirty-five, owing to two being made appendices, 'The Damascus Caravan' being numbered as a separate chapter' (Penzer). Burton's classic account was first published in 1855. Penzer, p.54.

Dalla prefazione, scritta da Isabel Burton (moglie dell’A.): “On the return journey from Meccah, when Richard Burton could secure any privacy, he composed the following exquisite gem of Oriental poetry, and called it “The Kasidah”. by Haji Abdu al-Yazdi, which was one of his Eastern noms-de-plume.. “The Kasidah” was written in 1853. It is a poem of extraordinary power, on the Nature and Destiny of Man, anti-Christian and Pantheistic. So much wealth of Oriental learning has rarely been compressed into so small a compass..”. “Sir Richard Francis Burton (1821-1890), viaggiatore e scrittore inglese. Per alcuni anni in India, compì (1853) un viaggio alla Mecca travestito da pellegrino; e quindi in Somalia riuscendo a raggiungere Harrar, non ancora visitata da Europei (1854). Parti’ quindi con Speke alla ricerca delle sorgenti del Nilo e scoprì il lago Tanganica (1858). Fu poi in California e nuovamente in Africa, dove salì per primo il M. Camerun.
