No OCLC record for this edition<br /> <br /> <p>Together with 37 issues of The Mayans copyrighted 1936-1967 but printed in the 1960s. Includes issues 1-13 15-28 and 31-42. First issue contains two introductory letters each supposedly signed likely after her death by the psychic Isabelle Taylor under her stage name Rose Dawn. Each issue staple bound at upper edge pink cover sheet printed in red approx 12-20 mimeographed sheets printed recto only. Overall Very Good with subscription crease to each booklet light wear to covers and occasional coffee stains and inscriptions; three rear pages detached. Three secret code practice sheets on scrap paper laid in.<br /> <br /> <p>A nice collection of cult/kook publications. The Mayan Order was created by the married couple William and Isabelle Taylor who after moving to Hollywood transformed themselves into "Rose Dawn" the showgirl and "Koran" the conjurer. They moved to Del Rio in 1933 to perform as psychics on the new radio station founded by the famous quack Dr. John Brinkley who made his money by convincing men that they could improve their virility by allowing him to implant goat testes in their bodies. The powerful Radio XERA broadcast from just across the Mexican border to avoid American government regulation and it was a hit. Rose Dawn a Mae West lookalike became the "Star Girl of XERA" and raked in money selling astrological charts to her many listeners.<br /> <br /> <p>Rose Dawn and Koran announced that Del Rio was the center of ancient Mayan culture and they bought a ranch nearby to create the headquarters of their new Mayan Order complete with alters. They delivered Mayan-flavored self-help lessons via correspondence beginning by teaching each student a special code for communication. In 1941 they moved the Order to San Antonio where it lasted long after Rose's death in 1957. Her signature continued to appear on documents -- perhaps her spectral fingers reached out from Xibalba to move the pen. The Mayan Press unknown

One of the main chapters of IRCICA s research program titled "Studies on the Holy Quran" consists of analytical and comparative studies on historical and physical features of early copies of the Holy Quran which are located at different places around the world. These studies, published by IRCICA, not only enrich the academic literature in the field but also highlight the clear evidence of the authenticity of the Holy Quran, thus refuting some Western +authors suggestions to the contrary. The following volumes have been published by IRCICA in this series, in the order of publication: the copies attributed to the time of the Third Caliph, Othman bin Affan RA and preserved, respectively, at Topkapi Palace Museum in Istanbul and the Central Library of Islamic Manuscripts (originally founded as Mashhad al-Husayn) in Cairo; the copy attributed to the time of the Fourth Caliph Ali bin Abi Talib KAW and located in the Manuscripts Library near Sana a Grand Mosque, that attributed to the period of the Third Caliph, Othman bin Affan RA and preserved at the Islamic Arts Museum in Cairo, the partial copy preserved at the National Library of France, Paris, the partial copy at Tubingen University Library, Germany, the partial copy at British Library, London, the copy located at State Library in Berlin, Germany, and now, a two-volume study on the copy which is located in the collection of Fahreddin Pasha ("Defender of Madina" during World War I) at Topkapi Palace Museum Library, Istanbul. This new book contains the scholarly study by Dr. Tayyar Altikulac, specialist of studies on the Holy Quran and ex-President of Religious Affairs in Turkey, on this copy. The latter was brought from Madina to Istanbul by Fahreddin Pasha. The study is composed of elaborate chapters written with utmost depth and meticulosity. Some of the subjects dealt with are: the history of the copy, its physical condition and contents, its descent, its relationship with the known pronunciations, its orthography, the period when it was copied, and the method applied in the study.

Burman looks instead to a different set of sources: the Latin translations of the Qur'an made by European scholars and the manuscripts and early printed books in which these translations circulated. Using these largely unexplored materials, Burman argues that the reading of the Qur'an in Western Europe was much more complex. While their reading efforts were certainly often focused on attacking Islam, scholars of the period turned out to be equally interested in a whole range of grammatical, lexical, and interpretive problems presented by the text. Indeed, these two approaches were interconnected: attacking the Qur'an often required sophisticated explorations of difficult Arabic grammatical problems. Furthermore, while most readers explicitly denounced the Qur'an as a fraud, translations of the book are sometimes inserted into the standard manuscript format of Christian Bibles and other prestigious Latin texts (small, centered blocks of text surrounded by commentary) or in manuscripts embellished with beautiful decorated initials and elegant calligraphy for the pleasure of wealthy collectors. Addressing Christian-Muslim relations generally, as well as the histories of reading and the book, Burman offers a much fuller picture of how Europeans read the sacred text of Islam than we have previously had.
