Spine defective and covers rubbed but binding is sound; several leaves bear stubs at outer edge from former index tabs; first leaf of Psalter extended at inner margin; final two leaves slightly waterstained; some browning and occasional stains; text block seriously trimmed but never into text. Notes on front endpapers and a presentation inscription in 1826 from a member of the German Methodist Episcopal Church U.S. In a custom half-morocco slipcase and chemise. 293 of 296 leaves; lacking first 2 leaves of the Calendar and final blank. •6 ••8 a-x8 y12 z8 A-L8 M3. 1 vols. 8vo; 111 x 90 mm. An Incunable of the Utmost Rarity. Johann Zainer the Elder fl. 1472-93 established the first printing press at Ulm where his first book is dated 1473. This pocket psalter by Zainer is undated; the colophon gives only the printer's name and the city in which it was printed. ISTC gives a conjectural date of around 1480. <br/><br/>The book's handy but fragile format a thick octavo that would have been easily portable for late fifteenth-century users doubtless guaranteed a low survival rate. The texts are given here without music; each portion has a table of first lines with the Psalms providing an index of appropriate selections for particular subjects and occasions.<br>Â Â Â Â Binding: Contemporary red straight-grain morocco covers framed in gilt roll spine with gilt-stamped title and compartment decorations.<br>Â Â Â Â Provenance: Ownership initials of William R. Whittingham G.R.W. the "William" being rendered as "Guillelmus" for his love of Latin fourth Episcopal Bishop of Baltimore; stamp of an Episcopal Diocesan lending library. Binding as above; front cover detached back joint starting from top head of spine chipped with binding showing minor darkening and scuffing overall. Free endpapers excised. Front pastedown with rubber-stamp as above no other institutional markings; first text page with inked ownership inscription as above dated 1864. Title-page of first work lacking. Pages slightly age-toned some creased; one leaf with lower outer corner torn away. Small emphasis marks to index of Hymns with an additional manuscript entry in the table of first lines. Basileae: per Ioannem Oporinum colophon: 1555. 8vo 15.9 cm 6.25". 16 341 7 pp. <br><br>Sole edition of these Greek paraphrased psalms done by Paul Dolscius while he was serving as a rector in Halle. Melanchthon was a great supporter of Dolscius 152689 whose translation work was so proficient that at one point his authorial byline on the Greek translation of the Augsburg Confession was assumed to be merely a pseudonym for the great reformer himself.<br>Â Â Â Â The text here is simply printed with the Latin preface in roman and the main text in Greek using single columns; a 5-line decorative initial and a 7-line inhabited one showing two kings in profile complete the work. This is now an uncommon edition with searches of Worldcat COPAC USTC and NUC Pre-1956 revealing only three U.S. institutions reporting ownership.<br>Â Â Â Â Provenance: An inked ownership stamp of notable 19th-century English bibliomaniac Richard Heber 17741833 reading "Bibliotheca Heberiana" appears on the front free endpaper; Thomas Frognall Dibdin added this stamp to select rare books in Heber's collection following the collector's death. Most recently in the library of American collector Albert A. Howard small booklabel "AHA" at rear. <br>Â Â Â Â <br>Â Â Â Â Bibliotheca Palatina F5048/F5049; VD16 B3122; USTC 626665. Light age-toning with occasional slivers of marginal staining possibly thanks to the blue edge stain one interior tear touching letters and two marginal spots. Durant 40 ans ils se retrouvèrent ainsi aux quatre coins du monde le premier à la pointe des hautes affaires de l'agro-alimentaire le second à l'avant-scène du grand reportage. Et fidèles à leurs origines ils revenaient se replonger ensemble avec délices dans la fraîcheur intacte de leur première rencontre. Mais brutalement à la sortie d'un hiver -cinq autres déjà- sonna l'heure de la dernière... Et le paysan dit à l'étudiant : Si les médecins ne se sont pas trompés qui m'accordent de six mois à un an de vie je viendrai chez toi dans les Pyrénées en mai et nous finirons de parler tous les deux sur ta terrasse face aux sommets... Neuf jours après hélas il s'en allait... Alors surmontant sa peine et ses scrupules et avec l'appui de témoins de tous bords humbles ou grands l'étudiant s'est décidé à combler ce mou de conversation. Car il connaissait le désir profond du Gavroche de Noé qui avait relevé l'extravagant défi de jouer au milliardaire rouge : Je compte sur toi pour que l'on sache un jour qui j'étais vraiment... La révélation dans toute la rigueur de l'amitié est bouleversante
