Piazza, Paris (Septembre) 1897, sujet : 40x31cm, planche : cm, une feuille et une serpente. - Rare lithographie originale en couleurs, exécutée par Armand Point pour L'Estampe Moderne, série numéro 5 publiée en septembre 1897. Une des 50 épreuves de grand luxe tirées sur Japon à grandes marges, signature de l'artiste et date dans la planche, timbre à sec de l'éditeur représentant un profil d'enfant en marge inférieure, tampon numéroté du tirage de luxe au dos ; gravure précédée d'une serpente légendée du nom de l'artiste, du titre et d'un texte de présentation ; et d'une autre serpente vierge. Manque comblé à l'aide d'une bande de papier en marge haute droite de la planche avec petit manque au tampon du verso. Magnifique publication mensuelle française éditée entre mai 1897 et avril 1899, L'Estampe moderne se constitue de chromolithographies inédites qui, contrairement à d'autres revues comme Les Maîtres de l'Affiche et tel qu'il est stipulé sur les serpentes, ont été réalisées spécialement par chaque artiste pour la revue. Ce sont ainsi 100 estampes qui paraissent au total, couvrant les courants artistiques majeurs de la fin du XIXème siècle : Symbolisme, Art Nouveau, Préraphaélites, Orientalistes et Belle Epoque. Chaque livraison de quatre estampes est tirée à 2000 exemplaires vendus 3,50F et 100 sur papier Japon proposés à 10F. Henri Piazza prévoit également un tirage confidentiel de très grand luxe : 50 exemplaires sur Japon à grandes marges et 50 en noir sur Chine au prix considérable de 30F. Cette estampe d'un beau format est superbement imprimée en couleurs sur le plus prestigieux des papiers : le Japon. Epais, soyeux, satiné et nacré, il contribue à faire de chaque page une uvre à part entière. Sa qualité d'absorption de l'encre et son affinité avec les couleurs en font également le support idéal de ces très belles lithographies. L'intérêt des collectionneurs français pour les affiches artistiques s'amplifie au début des années 1890. Octave Uzanne, pour qualifier cette fièvre invente le terme d'« affichomanie ». L'affiche, à l'origine populaire et placardée dans les rues de la capitale, devient alors objet d'art et son support éphémère se fait précieux et voué à la conservation. Piazza décide de soustraire l'affiche à sa vocation publicitaire et de l'élever au rang d'uvre d'art à part entière au même titre que le livre illustré de luxe. Il compose ainsi une collection prestigieuse d'uvres entièrement originales, par les artistes européens les plus en vue du moment : Georges de Feure, Eugène Grasset, Henri Detouche, Emile Berchmans, Louis Rhead, Gaston de Latenay, Lucien Lévy-Dhurmer, Gustave-Max Stevens, Charles Doudelet, Hans Christiansen, Henri Fantin-Latour, Steinlen, Ibels, Engels, Willette, Henri Meunier, Evenepoël, Bellery-Desfontaines, Charles Léandre, etc. Bel exemplaire. 6th issue of this first collective publishing adventure of the later Belgrade surrealists. – Contents: As the title of the review suggests »Svedocanstva« should deliver testimonies to the contemporary developments in Serbian arts and society but also abroad, containing poetry, essays, short prose, letters as well as documents. Printed in 1.000 copies each (nevertheless hard to find today in complete sets) the issues of this magazine document early established and close ties to the French surrealist movement, whose periodical »La Révolution surréaliste« is promoted in issue no. 1. Mati?, a professor of philosophy and major theoretical proponent of the Belgrade movement, and the poet Moni de Buli later signed the French surrealist's declaration „La révolution d'abord et toujours“ in 1925. Washington DC: Students & Youth for a Peoples' Peace 1971. Original three-color poster offset lithographed in black white and red measuring 43cm x 56cm 16 7/8" x 22 2/8". A Fine example. Poster from the 1971 May Day protests in Washington DC a series of large-scale civil disobedience actions in protest against the Vietnam War. The poster reproduces a well-known portrait of Sioux chief Sitting Bull and utilizes a quote by him on the upper half. Students & Youth for a Peoples' Peace was spearheaded by the May Day Tribe a group made up of Yippies and some of the more militant elements of the anti-war movement. The protests resulted in a series of violent clashes between demonstrators and police resulting in more than 12000 arrests. We find no examples in the trade 2018 and while OCLC shows a cataloged listing for the poster the only holding is a digital image in the U.New Mexico archives. T3. "The first art / culture posters in Turkey began with theatre bills and their ranks were swelled by those for concerts exhibitions and films in the 1980s. How do we explain these original examples which failed to enter the daily life of Istanbul Ankara Izmir and other major cities since they cannot have been conceived and produces without commissions. Obviously there must have been commissions. But what sort of need for 'posters as a medium' these commissions originated from I fail to see. Does the fate of Turkish posters lie hidden in thatr aphorism about 'the losers bein the real winners' Do not expect to learn the answer to this question from those who have written; - posters embellish walls as walls do the city. -posters are the talking walls of a city. - Posters are the pop-art of metropolises. - A Paris a London a New York a Tokyo a Rome a BErlin is unthinkable without posters. When you ttry to imagine it they are transformed to a city plunged into darkness by a power cut. Istanbul this global metropolis is therefore a metropolis darkened in full daylight.".
