His picturesque recounting of a three year sojourn in the far East first appeared in Paris in 1850 as Souvenirs d'un voyage dans la Tartarie le Thibet et la Chine pendant les ann�es 1844 1845 et 1846 and was quite popular. This notoriety coupled with his rather naive enthusiasm for Tibetan customs and religion saw his work consigned to the Index by his own Church. A very well preserved copy with unsophisticated former owner's book-plate inside front cover. No marking or writing to text. Light rubbing to bands and leather at top of spine.
