He was among the first to comprehend the uses of oral history of peoples, and collected many. He established friendships with African rulers and scholars during his five years of travel (1850-1855). Relazione firmata da Ignazio Bartoli, Lelio Bulano, Vieri Sevieri incaricati dalla presidenza del Consorzio siderurgico italiano di recarsi nell'Africa orientale italiana 'per rendersi conto della opportunita' e possibilita' di impiantare una ferriera in uno de governi dell'impero, per indagare sulla disponibilita' dei minerali e combustibili utilizzabili per l'industria siderurgica ed infin raccogliere elementi di carattere commerciale'. Segue quindi un'indagine sugli impianti metallurgici in Eritrea, sulle vie di comunicazione locali, e una previsione sulle possibilita' costruttive dei vari governi con l'ipotesi di aprire una piccola ferriera a Massaua. Le conclusioni, pero', non sono positive. I tre ingegneri concludono dicendo che 'date le condizioni attuali, ' sono meno favorevoli, rispetto alle ipotesi di partenza, all'apertura di un impianto siderurgico in A.O.I.

In 16, cm 12 x 17, pp. (2) + 342 + (2) con 1 ritratto all'antiporta inciso all'acquaforte e 1 tavola piu' volte ripiegata raffigurante la piramide di Cheope. Mezza pelle coeva con fregi oro al dorso (alcuni danni riparati alla cerniera). Raro testo del Baruffi che descrive questo viaggio, compiuto nel 1843 e che segui' quello a Costantinopoli. Il viaggio tocco' Alessandria, il Cairo, le piramidi di Giseh, Gisa, Cheope, l'Istmo di Suez, Eliopoli ecc.
