Produsse vari atlanti e raccolte di piante e vedute di città, per le quali incise molte nuove carte: ai primi del Settecento fu nominato incisore di corte da Augusto di Sassonia, produsse infatti molti ritratti di personaggi famosi; molte incisioni uscite dalla sua stamperia, che nel frattempo si era notevolmente allargata ed ospitava i migliori incisori del tempo, portano la sua firma soltanto come editore. Heinrich Scherer, professore di matematica a Monaco di Baviera, era un gesuita devoto la cui opera sottolineava la gerarchia cattolica e la diffusione delle missioni gesuite in tutto il mondo. Il suo Atlas Novus contiene mappe di tutte le altre parti che mostravano la diffusione del cattolicesimo e delle missioni gesuite. Scherer, a devout Jesuit, produced this geographical compendium to depict the Catholic hierarchy and the spread of Jesuit missions throughout the world. The 180 maps included in this work were prepared between 1699 and 1700 and were engraved by Leonard Hecknaeur, Joseph Montelegre or Matthus Wolfgang with each volume introduced by fine allegorical frontispieces by the same engravers. Copper engraving, in very good condition. Devoted allegorical attention to sea-going nations at a time when much of the world had been discovered and Europeans were swarming out like bees to learn details of hitherto unknown continents, taking possessions and bringing back whatever was new to them as well as not only taking blessings to the people they met on their adventures.

Il Nilo, secondo le conoscenze dell'epoca, si origina dai due laghi Zambre e Zaflan, posti a meridione. Il lago Zambre, inoltre, genera anche i fiumi Congo e Zaire. I mari abbondano di una grande varietà di mostri marini, uno dei quali mostra un volto umano. Interesting map of Africa; the continent is presented with a fairly accurate coastline, but most of the interior is entirely fictional. The Nile is shown in the traditional manner with its source in the large southern lakes of Zaflan and Zembre. The Zembre, also labeled Lac Zaire spawns the Congo and Zaire Rivers as well. The seas abound with a variety of fascinating sea monsters, one of which has a human face, and wild animals roam the interior. The title cartouche is surrounded by detailed engravings of the indigenous animals of Africa. Dated 1700, but published in 1710. The interior is fully engraved with depictions of mountains, forests, rivers, cities, and a number of animals, including lions, giraffes, and elephants. The Azores, Canary Islands and Cape Verde Islands are well depicted, and an inset of Tenerira and Canary appears at bottom left. The map is richly ornamented with a decorative title cartouche, ships, sea monsters, and three large native figures holding three birds native to the region: an accipter, a canary and a flamingo. Decorativa carta geografica dell'Africa meridionale, con il Madagascar e le isole adiacenti, pubblicata nell'opera di Heinrich Scherer "Atlas Novus exhibens orbem terraguem per naturae opera, historiae navae acveterus monumenta, artistique geographicae leges et praecepta.." edito in 8 parti, dal 1702 al 1710 a Monaco.La carta riflette la geografia dell'epoca, con la collocazione erronea di montagne, fiumi e laghi.Il Nilo è rappresentato con le sue due sorgenti che si originano dal Lago Zaire e Lago Zaflan a est.Siotto il cartiglio con il titolo, una bella vignetta allegorica con due divinità fluviali (rappresentate da un nigeriano e un egiziano) che simboleggia i fiumi Niger e Nilo. La mappa è ulteriormente arricchita con navi a vela e mostri marini.Incisione su rame, in ottimo stato di conservazione. The decorative title cartouche continues the theme with two river gods (represented by a Nigerian and an Egyptian) symbolizing the Niger and Nile Rivers, with crocodiles emerging from the waters.
