Very limited in number when originally issued and fragile by nature, most are by now practically extinct and the scarce survivors are much sought after. We took upon ourselves to collate, catalogue, and identify each item in accordance with Beinlich-Seeber or Annual Egyptological Bibliography, in the hope that this collection will prove useful for scholars and collectors alike. Sur quelques représentations de caméléon de l'ancienne Égypte. (Bulletin de l'Institut français d'archéologie orientale BIFAO).
Quarto. Pp. 85-95. Plus 2 fine collotype plates one of which is hand-coloured. With 3 text figures, one of which is a drawing by the author. Original printed wrappers, small inscription at top of cover. In a very good condition. ~ First edition thus. Extrait du Bulletin de l'Institut Français d'Archéologie Orientale, 1936. Ludwig (Louis) Joseph Gustav Keimer (1893-1957). A presentation copy, signed and dedicated by the author to his friend and colleague Egyptologist Prof. Baudouin van de Walle (1901-1988) from whose library this item comes. Beautifully illustrated. Collotype is one of the most accurate and attractive methods of photomechanical tonal printing processes. Highly skilled and expensive process, it cannot produce more than a limited number of impressions. It has been used for single-sheet prints and luxury portfolios, and since the 1950s has been abandoned by all except a few small specialist firms. One of the plates here is printed in coloured collotype, an exceptionally complicated process which consequently is seldom used in book production. The exquisite plate is finished by hand. Beinlich-Seeber 10833. ~[Librarium of The Hague offers the largest and finest collection of Egyptological offprint monographs in the rare book market.
