Auf jeden Fall war ihr Machtwille so ungebrochen, daß nahezu alle gewaltsam zu Tode kamen. Selbst die Römer, die eingefleischten Feinde jeden Königtums, feierten die Königinnen vom Nil. Was man an Männern kritisierte, Machtbewußtsein, ja Skrupellosigkeit, all das bewunderte man an den Königinnen der Ptolemäer. Auch in der Architektur beschritt man neue Wege. Königinnen, die jede Konvention hinter sich ließen, mußten göttlich sein und so plante man eine technische Großtat: In einem Tempel mit magnetischem Dach sollte die Statue Arsinoes II. vor aller Augen schweben, eine Vision, die in Grenzbereiche moderner Technik vorstößt.
