Premier plat de couverture conservé (petites traces anciennes de scotch Bon état d’ensemble Gordon entra au service du gouvernement égyptien en 1873 et fut nommé gouverneur militaire des provinces équatoriales en 1874. Rapidement, il se signala en luttant courageusement contre les bandes de négriers, établit une chaîne de postes entre Gondokoro et les lacs, et écrasa la révolte du Darfour. En 1884, à la demande du gouvernement anglais, il partit du Caire et gagna Khartoum. Quelques mois plus tard les troupes du Mahdi investirent la ville et le général Gordon fut tué lors des combats.
