Collated complete. 'Adventures During a Journey Overland to India' is a travel work recounting Thomas Skinner's 1833 journey to india by the overland route through Egypt Syria and Palestine. Skinner also travelled down the Euphrates and embarked on the Persian Gulf. This work is a fascinating look into these countries in the early-mid nineteenth century at a time when travelling and exploration overseas was becoming ever more popular with travel works like this becoming a booming genre of literature. Due to this it is an important work being a vital resource for the research into travels across these countries. The author discusses his experiences travelling in depth including the mode of travelling and the sights and scenes he saw along the way. Including his experiences lodging at mass talking with silk weavers and more. Written by Thomas Skinner who commanded the 31st Foot in the First Anglo-Afghan in 1842 and 1843. His other published work was 'Excursions in India'. He went to India with his regiment to India in 1826 where he was stationed near the foot of the Himalayas making expeditions to little known mountainous districts. Skinner received the Cross of the Order of the Bath and the Cabul medal for his services. Condition: In a half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally generally smart. Light rubbing to the boards and spine. A few light marks to the joints. Internally firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned with some scattered spotting.
