Decorative Art of Asia and Egypt
Ex-library book with the usual stamps, stickers, etc. Binding is tight and straight and text/interior is clean and free of marking of any kind. Book has been re-bound by the library in to strong, heavy green cloth boards that show small tears at lower corners, but little else. Interior is very very clean and bright with very heavy paper with sharp corners. The forty 4-color full page plates illustrate approximately 600 examples of ornamental designs from Ancient Egypt, Syria, Turkey, Persia, Bokhara, Samarkand, Chinese Turkestan, Persia, India, Siam, China, Japan; and from those of the Tartars, the Siberian peoples, the Lapps, the Kirghiz, the Turcomans and the peoples of the Pamir plateau. These illustrations cover mainly the peak periods of non-European civilizations, so rich in decorative ornaments.

Botti, Giuseppe, Pietro Romanelli.
Le sculture del Museo Gregoriano Egizio. (Monumenti Vaticani di Archeologia e d'Arte, IX).
Small folio. Pp. viii, 170. Plus 89 plates with multiple images to each, all printed in superb collotype, bound at end. Title-page printed in red and black. Hardcover, bound in the original publisher's duo-colour cloth, lettering-pieces to cover and spine, cloth bit discoloured. In a very good external condition, fine interior, crisp plates. ~ First edition. Beautifully illustrated. Collotype is one of the most accurate and attractive methods of photomechanical tonal printing processes. Highly skilled and expensive process, it cannot produce more than a limited number of impressions. It has been used for single-sheet prints and luxury portfolios, and since the 1950s has been abandoned by all except a few small specialist firms. [Provenance:] From the library of Egyptologist Prof. Dr. Herman De Meulenaere (1923-2011). [ADDED:] Christian Sturtewagen: "Concordance of Numbering Systems in the Museo Gregoriano Egizio". Pp. 497-507, photocopied from Orientalia. A most useful aid which refers directly to the work of Botti and Romanelli.

Hardcover, uniformly bound in the original publisher's brown full cloth, gilt lettering to cover and spine; short nick at head of one spine. In fine condition, crisp plates. ~ First edition. Catalogo del Museo Egizio di Torino, Serie Prima: Monumenti e Testi, Volume I. ~"The long-expected publication of the 45 Demotic papyri which are found, together with five others, written in Greek (published by M. Norsa and G. Vitelli in 'Papiri greci e latini della Società italiana, II, [1929], by Schiaparelli in 1905 in the neighbourhood of the temple of Deir e-Medina. They are at present in the Museo Egizio in Turin." - Annual Egyptological Bibliography, 67083 (1967). The wonderful plates are printed in collotype, one of the most accurate and attractive methods of photomechanical tonal printing processes. It has been used for single-sheet prints and luxury portfolios, and since the 1950s has been abandoned by all except a few small specialist firms. [TOGETHER WITH:] Karl-Theodor Zauzich: "Korrekturvorschläge zur Publikation des demotischen Archivs von Deir el-Medineh, I-III." Three parts in one volume. Quarto. Pp. 43-56; 85-96; 63-70. (Wiesbaden, Harrassowitz, 1973). Sonderuck aus Encoria, 1971-73. Published here for the first time in its completeness, Zauzich's "Companion" to Botti's work is of essential importance.
