‎Carl Leonhard Reinhold, abtrünnig gewordener Jesuit, Freimaurer und Illuminat, Schwiegersohn Wielands und 'Kantinaner der ersten Stunde' in Jena, zeigt in den "Hebräischen Mysterien", daß bereits Mose im Grunde seines Herzens dem 'All-Einen' huldigte, seinen philosophischen Gottesbegriff, den er aus den ägyptischen Mysterien übernommen hatte, aber aus politischen Gründen vor seinem Volk geheim hielt und in das Gewand eines nationalen Schutzgottes hüllte. Friedrich Schiller griff in seiner Vorlesung "Die Sendung Moses" die Grundgedanken Reinholds auf, radikalisierte sie und zeigte, daß Moses ?zum Besten der Welt und der Nachwelt" ein Verräter der ägyptischen Mysterien werden mußte. Beide Schriften gehören in den Kontext der Spinoza-Renaissance und des Pantheismus-Streits, der die geistige Elite Deutschlands am Ende des 18.Jahrhunderts in seinen Bann schlug. Sie werden hier (erstmalig seit 1787 bzw. 1790) in der ursprünglichen Gestalt abgedruckt und von Jan Assmann kommentiert. George Andrew Reisner (born in Indianapolis, Indiana, November 5, 1867, and died in Giza, Egypt, June 6, 1942) was an American archaeologist and one of the leading egyptologists of his time. He classified the Egyptology collection of the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. He was professor of Egyptology at Harvard University, directed the archaeological survey of Nubia (Nilotic Sudan) for the Egyptian government, explored explored the mastabas, and the pyramids of Meroë, and dug out the temple at Napata. Hardcover, uniformly bound in the original publisher's forest green cloth, small insignificant mark at bottom corner, gilt lettering to covers and spines, volume II with worn dust-jacket. In a very good condition, fine interiors. ~ First edition. Complete set. Volume II completed and revised by William Stevenson Smith and published posthumously. George Andrew Reisner (1867-1942) was the first person to make fully systematic excavations in Egypt, exploiting the technique of recorded digging much further than Petrie and earlier archaeologists had done. This attention to every detail and the scrupulous care taken meant that although his reports were much fuller than those of his predecessors, they also required much more time for preparation, resulting in a great part of his work remaining incomplete and unpublished at his death. His publications were of great importance and of monumental proportions, with a detailed study unknown before his time. The wonderful plates in Volume I are printed in collotype, one of the most accurate and attractive methods of photomechanical tonal printing processes. Highly skilled and expensive process, it cannot produce more than a limited number of impressions. It has been used for single-sheet prints and luxury portfolios, and since the 1950s has been abandoned by all except a few small specialist firms. Beinlich-Seeber 16565 (vol. I).‎
