Adorno 1903-1969 one of the leading social thinkers of the twentieth century long concerned himself with the problems of moral philosophy or "whether the good life is a genuine possibility in the present." This book consists of a course of seventeen lectures given in May-July 1963. Captured by tape recorder which Adorno called "the fingerprint of the living mind" these lectures present a somewhat different and more accessible Adorno from the one who composed the faultlessly articulated and almost forbiddingly perfect prose of the works published in his lifetime. Here we can follow Adorno's thought in the process of formation he spoke from brief notes endowed with the spontaneity and energy of the spoken word. E-180; 8vo 8" - 9" tall . David Livingstone 1813-1872 studied medicine but after he qualified decided to devote his life to missionary work in Africa. In November 1840 he was ordained a missionary and in December set off for Africa. From his base at Kuruman in South Africa he made a number of journeys into the interior of Africa studying the people nature and geology of the country. He was one of the first Europeans to see many important features of Africa including the Zambesi river the Victoria falls and Lake Nyasa. Charles Livingstone 1821-1873 emigrated to America in 1840 and studied theology in New York. He was given a pastoral charge in Massachusetts but in 1857 his brother persuaded him to join his expedition to the Zambesi. He stayed with the expedition until 1863 when he was invalided home. From 1864 until his death he worked as a British Consul in Africa. Nonsuch Publishing paperback

Emerald House Group Inc 2004. Soft cover. Fine. 8vo - over 7 - 9" tall. A tight clean and unmarked copy- Some men do their greatest work in the face of heart-breaking disappointments; such was David Livingstone. Facing jealousy from other missionaries the death of his wife troubles delays worries hunger thirst illness and the fear of death from the slave-dealers and wild animals Livingstone was still close to God. His Bible was his solace and he felt the companionship of Jesus Christ even when he was most alone. Though David Livingstone has been dead for over a century he has an honored name and his fame is fresh. He believed that God had called him to open Africa; and having done so he left it to others under God's guidance to pick up the task where he had finished. Because of the work of David Livingstone there are thousands of missionaries on the field today; missionaries who love the same Lord Jesus who made Livingstone the hero that he was.

Emerald House Group Inc paperback
