Topics cover include Six Centuries of Oppression 1373 and all that Britain's first Neo-Colony Imperial Conflict Salazar and the Alliance The Alliance in Modern Dress Closing the Ranks and Alliance in Oppression. The authors assert that Portugal is and has been since 1928 when Salazar et up his "New State" in imitation of Mussolini a fascist state. It is an unpleasant fact that Britain today gives formal support and aid to one of the most repressive regimes in Europe--a regime under which violence and exploitation of the people of Portugal are matched by violence and exploitation of the people of Angola Mozambique and Guine Portugal's extensive African possessions. British support for Portugal symbolized and celebrated in the Anglo-Portuguese Alliance supports the Portuguese efforts to defeat the liberation movement. The UK Committee for Freedom in Mozambique was formed in 1968 at the request of the Mozambique Liberation Front FRELIMO which had launched an armed national liberation struggle against Portuguese colonial rule in 1964. It expanded a year later to cover Angola and Guine-Bissau where armed struggle was also under way renaming itself as the Committee for Freedom in Mozambique Angola and Guine CFMAG. CFMAG operated as a campaigning pressure group aiming to build broad based political support for FRELIMO the People's Movement for the Liberation of Angola MPLA and the African Independence Party of Guine-Bissau and Cape Verde PAIGC. It worked with all political parties the labour and student movements churches NGOs and many others. It had close relations with the Anti-Apartheid Movement and encouraged a regional perspective for the future of Southern Africa. It organised visits by liberation movement representatives and various specific political and material aid campaigns culminating in the End the Alliance Campaign of 1972/3. Following the 25 April coup in Portugal in 1974 and the subsequent negotiations between the new Portuguese government and the liberation movements the right of the colonies to full and immediate independence was acknowledged. CFMAG organised a victory party at St Pancras Town Hall on 25 June 1975 Mozambique's Independence Day and closed down its objectives achieved. Format is approximately 11.5 inches by 16 inches printed on one side only. The poster/flyer has been folded twice so there are four sections. IT is produced on a piece of large format paper and not on 'posterboard'. It is rare for such ephemeral posters to survive outside of special collections for more than a few days after the completion of the advertised event. There is a striking graphic which a man of Africa with the three countries in black and with a long gun overlaying the continent. An aspect of the conference was apparently to end the Anglo-Portuguese Alliance. Among the announced participants were: Marcelino doe Santos Vice President of FRELIMO Aquino Braganca Ruth First Fred Halliday Winston Pinder Joe Slovo Basis Davidson Stuart Hall Abdul Minty John Saul and Bob Sutcliffe. The Portuguese Colonial War in Africa lasted from 1961 until the final overthrow of the Estado Novo regime in 1974. The so-called Carnation Revolution of April 1974 in Lisbon led to the hasty decolonization of Portuguese Africa and to the 1975 annexation of Portuguese Timor by Indonesia. Decolonization prompted the exodus of nearly all the Portuguese colonial settlers and of many mixed-race people from the colonies. Portugal returned Macau to China in 1999. The only overseas possessions to remain under Portuguese rule the Azores and Madeira both had overwhelmingly Portuguese populations and Lisbon subsequently changed their constitutional status from "overseas provinces" to "autonomous regions". The Mozambique Liberation Front FRELIMO from the Portuguese Frente de Liberta��o de Mo�ambique is the dominant political party in Mozambique. Founded in 1962 FRELIMO began as a nationalist movement fighting for the independence of the Portuguese Overseas Province of Mozambique. Independence was achieved in June 1975 after the Carnation Revolution in Lisbon the previous year. At the party's 3rd Congress in February 1977 it became an officially Marxist-Leninist political party. It identified as the Frelimo Party Partido Frelimo. The Frelimo Party has ruled Mozambique since then first as a one-party state. It struggled through a long civil war 1976-1992 against an anti-Communist faction known as Mozambican National Resistance or RENAMO. The insurgents from RENAMO received support from the then white-minority governments of Rhodesia and South Africa. The Frelimo Party approved a new constitution in 1990 which established a multi-party system. Since democratic elections in 1994 and subsequent cycles it has been elected as the majority party in the parliament of Mozambique. Committee for Freedom in Mozambique, Angola & Guine unknown

De la Cote d'Ivoire au Soudan et a la Guinée par le Capitaine D'Ollone de l'Infanterie, contenant 90 illustrations et 2 cartes tirees hors texte.
In-4°; (8), 310, (6) pp. con 2 grandi tavole più volte ripiegate poste infine al volume. Bella legatura coeva in tutta pelle rosse con titolo, filetti, fregi e nome dell'antico collezzionista (un Marchese) impressi in oro al dorso. Piatti foderati con carta marmorizzata coeva. Seconda non comune edizione, in perfette condizioni di conservazione, di questo importante resoconto africano. D'Ollone (1868-1945) fu un celebre ufficiale militare francese. Capitano di fanteria, fu inviato a condurre una missione esplorativa nell'Africa occidentale tra il 1898 ed il 1900, missione che è proprio ripercorsa in questo volume. Pochi anni dopo D'Ollone, guidò anche una missione scientifica in Cina (1906-1909). Fu nominato generale di brigata nel 1919, e si distinse come ufficiale dalle grandi doti durante il primo conflitto mondiale tanto da ottenere la Legion d'Onore francese nel 1933. L'opera ricostruisce la flora, la fauna, i paesaggi ed i costumi delle popolazioni locali incontrate. Esempalre in seconda edizione ed in perfette condizioni di conservazione, in bella legatura coeva. Provenienza nobiliare. Very good copy, second edition, rare.<BR>
