‎Paris, Gueffier, 1784. 2 volumes in-8 de [4]-XVI-396p. ; [4]-474-[2]p., plein veau marbré, dos à nerfs ornés de filets et fleurons dorés, pièces de titre en maroquin rouge. Bel exemplaire en très jolie condition.‎

‎Illustré au tome I de 25 (2 bis) planches et pour le tome II de 28 planches dépliantes hors-texte. Eminent savant, Sigaud a fortement marqué les sciences de son époque. Il s’intéressa à de nombreux domaines scientifiques et plus particulièrement à l’électricité. Dans le domaine de la physique, ses travaux étaient reconnus par les plus grands savants de l’époque. Citons l'exemple d'André-Marie Ampère (1775-1836), qui écrivit à sa femme (lettre du 19 février 1802): «Fais-moi le plaisir d'acheter et de m'envoyer le plus tôt possible l'ouvrage intitulé: Description et usage d'un cabinet de physique, par Sigaud de Lafond. Rien n'est plus important pour moi. » Dans le domaine de la chimie, les travaux de Sigaud de Lafond influencèrent ceux de Joseph Priestley puis d'Antoine Laurent de Lavoisier. Précieux exemplaire ayant appartenu à Sophie Potocka, avec son ex-libris manuscrit sur les deux faux-titres. Zofia Konstantinova Potocka (1760-1822), née Clavone, esclave grecque, puis espionne et enfin comtesse Potocki, mena une existence extrêmement romanesque à la fin du XVIIIe siècle. Réputée la plus belle femme d'Europe, elle fut la maîtresse de puissants personnages en Pologne, à Paris (les comtes de Provence et d'Artois notamment) et en Russie. Elle épousa en secondes noces le comte Stanislas Potocki, qui créa en son nom le célèbre parc de Sofiyivka pour la somme fabuleuse de 15 millions de zloty. La comtesse Isa Potocka (XXème siècle) a apposée sa signature sous celle de Sophie. He was interested in many scientific fields and more particularly in electricity. In the field of physics, his works were recognized by the greatest scientists of the time. In the field of chemistry, Sigaud de Lafond's work influenced those of Joseph Priestley and Antoine Laurent de Lavoisier.Precious copy that belonged to Sophie Potocka, with her ex-libris manuscript on the two subtitles. ‎Very scarce first printing of this series of plates, aiming at glorifying the Swedish victories, showing battlescenes - Warsaw, Carnova, Columbi, Guesne and the crossing of the Belt in Denmark - from the wars against Poland and Denmark (1655-58), in fine engravings by Skjöldebrand.‎
