Lorca Federico Garcia
POETA EN NUEVA YORK. Con Cuatro Dibujos Originales. Poema de Antonio Machado. Prologo de Jose Bergamin
Mexico City: Editorial Seneca 1940. First Illustrated Edition the First Edition solely in Spanish following the bilingual Spanish-English edition translated by Rolfe Humphries and published just a few weeks earlier in New York. With four full page plates from drawings by Garcia Lorca two in colour and two in black and white. Titlepage printed in black and red. 4to publisher’s original printed wrappers and with the jacket band announcing “Un libro inedito de Federico Garcia Lorca.†Now preserved in a folding case. 187pp. A fine uncut copy very well preserved indeed. FIRST ILLUSTRATED EDITION AND FIRST SOLELY IN SPANISH OF Garcia Lorca’s final published cycle of poems. The poems were published posthumously in 1940 but were written during his residency in New York in 1929 and 1930. His experiences in New York amongst the disenfranchised African American population transformed him into a passionate advocate of the theatre of social action. This edition followed the bilingual New York publication by only a few weeks. It is the first to include his art work. Lorca rose to international acclaim as one of the members of the Generation of ‘27 an influential group of poets that arose in Spanish literary circles. He was presumed killed by anti-Communist forces just days after the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War. Editorial Seneca unknown

Lorca Federico Garcia; Camp Jean Editor
ROMANCERO GITAN Traduction par Paul Verdevoye Precedee D’Une Etude Sur L’Homme et L’Oeuvre Par Jean Camp
Paris: La Nouvelle Edition 1945. Second edition thus one year after the first. WITH A SIGNED PRESENTATION INSCRIPTION BY THE EDITOR JEAN CAMP. Printed in blue. Small 4to publisher’s original printed wrappers in glassine. 95 pp. A very good copy with only a bit of minor expected wear to the delicate paper wrappers and toning to the paper as is typical. INSCRIBED BY JEAN CAMP. Perhaps Garcia Lorca’s most famous work “Gypsy Ballads†was first published in Spanish in 1928. It consists of eighteen ballads each of the poems have something in common dealing with Gypsy culture . It reflects the pains of a persecuted people living on the fringe of society and finding itself pursued by the representatives of authority and their struggle against this repressive authority. This struggle would be echoed in Garcia Lorca’s own life he was presumed killed by anti-Communist forces just days after the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War. A unique copy inscribed by the editor Jean Camp. Camp also provides essay on Garcia Lorca and his work which is not included in the earlier Spanish or English editions. La Nouvelle Edition unknown
