Wetzer/Welte 9, 1895, sp. 1224), der sich jedoch in Bibliotheken nicht nachweisen lässt. - Provenienz: aus älterem Dublettenverkauf der Stiftsbibliothek Einsiedeln : Sammlungsstempel 'Bibliotheca Monasterii Einsidlensis' u. entspr. -Etiketten mit Tilgungsstempel. - Bedeutende, in dieser Form und so vollständig äusserst seltene gedruckte Quelle, die als Zeitdokument nicht zuletzt relevant ist auch für die allgemeinere Fragestellung der Macht- und Hegemonialpolitik Napoleons, zum Verhältnis von Kirche und Staat im allgemeinen, von Frankreich und dem ersten Kaiserreich, sowie der Église Gallicane zum Kirchenstaat und dem Papst im speziellen : Pius VII. (Cesena 1740-1823 Rom), geboren als Graf Luigi Barnaba Chiaramonti, mit 16 Jahren Benediktiner (O.S.B.), 1782 u. 1785 Bischof bzw. Kardinal, am 14.3.1800 zum Papst gewählt. Er war im Amt während der Herrschaft Napoleons, den er 1804 zum Kaiser salben musste, jedoch nicht krönen durfte, wie überhaupt Napoleon diesem standhaften Papst die Aufgaben vielfach erschwerte, ihn zusammen mit Kardinal Pacca in einem Überfall 1809 gefangensetzte und 1812 nach Fontainebleau verbrachte, wo der kranke Pius VII. genötigt wurde, das sog. Konkordat von Fontainebleau zu unterzeichnen, dessen Artikel faktisch den Verzicht auf den Kirchenstaat bedeuteten. "Der weiteren schmachvollen Bedrängung des Papstes machte der Sturz Napoleons ein Ende." (M. Buchberger, Hsg., Lexikon für Theologie und Kirche. 2. Aufl., Bd. 8, 1936, zit. sp. 307). (Brockh. 14, 1972). - Besonders erwähnenswert dürften die ausführlichen Schilderungen der Ereignisse sein, die Wetzer/Welte kurz so beschreiben: "Pacca's System war also das des Widerstandes gegen den allgefürchteten Tyrannen; auf seinen Rath wurde die Excommunicationsbulle gegen Napoleon erlassen (10. Juni 1809), als dieser den päpstlichen Staat für erloschen und dem französischen einverleibt erklärt hatte. Dafür wurde Pacca die Ehre zu Theil, mit dem Papste in die Gefangenschaft abgeführt zu werden; doch wurde er in Florenz von dem Papste getrennt und in die Festung Fenestrelle abgeführt, wo er über drei Jahre in Haft gehalten wurde. [..] Auf der Flucht Pius' VII. vor Murat (im März 1815) war Pacca wieder Begleiter des Papstes; er schildert die Reise nach Genua und die Rückkehr in der Relazione del viaggio [..]" (etc.; op.cit. sp. 1223 f.; vgl. auch dies., 10, 1897, sp. 67 f. unter 'Pius VII').‎

The same afternoon Lawrence sailed to meet him; the engagement which resulted is perhaps the most celebrated single-ship duel in the annals of the Royal Navy. For the challenger Broke it was the climax of years of waiting for a chance to distinguish himself and it succeeded beyond his dreams. In one furious contest the 'Shannon' avenged an unbroken list of five American single-ship victories since the start of the war. The author tells the story of Broke's life as it led up to this supreme day and vividly describes the action itself as he has discovered it afresh in contemporary documents and survivors' accounts. As far as possible Broke's own words have been used in letters to his beloved wife as she waited in Suffolk in journals and in other papers. He emerges as much more than simply a fighting sailor - he was a sensitive man lover of flowers and the Latin poets yet a master gunner whose fascination with scientific devices and ideas on training led to the establishment of the first great gunnery school 'Excellent' a patriot a teacher a loving and beloved husband and father." ‎La République Cisalpine de Bonaparte, 1797 Grande carte figurant la République cisalpine, république soeur de la République française, proclamée à Milan en juillet 1797 par le général Bonaparte. Cette république résulta de la réunion des républiques cispadane (territoires au sud du Pô avec Modène, Bologne, Ferrara et Reggio) et transpadane (Lombardie). La carte, publiée la même année que fut proclamée cette nouvelle république, couvre tout le nord de l'Italie et s'étend à l'ouest jusqu'à Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne, au nord jusqu'à Trento, à l'est jusqu'au golfe de Trieste et au sud jusqu'à Pise, Livourne et Ancône. La République cisalpine prit le nom de République italienne en janvier 1802, puis de Royaume d'Italie en mars 1805. Exemplaire brillamment aquarellé à l'époque.
