Quite worn with soiled covers rounded corners. Interior folds out to reveal a total of 21 engraved views ranging from two per page to double-page spreads printed on one side only; all are detached from binding the first four pages are detached from the remainder and several folds show partial separation. The illustrations themselves are nicely intact though with some soiling and dampstaining evident in margins. Boards and outside layer of spine are showing edgewear and discolouration. Front board beginning to detach from spine with one and half inch long tear at spine head. Boards have numerous scorings and abrasions. Waterstains on upper and inside parts of boards. Minor spotting to front board. Upper and inner edges of boards and spine are darkened probably as a result of sunning. Lacks small pieces of calf at spine ends. Spine body has several light scratches. Spine foot has one or two small nicks. Leading corners are quite worn. Age tanning to head of page block. Front inner paper hinge is torn but all pages is tight. Nameplate on front pastedown. This book is in Very Good condition and was likely issued without a dust jacket. The book and its contents are in generally clean bright condition. The spine ends and corners of the book cover have some light bumping with a noticeable bump to the top corners. The white cloth spine and corners have ground-in dirt. The text pages are clean and bright. The endpapers have noticeable generalized toning. The milenary thousand year celebration for Romsey Abbey included church services on three succeeding days the first the 25th of June 1907 included a visit by H. R. H. Princess Louise and the Choristers of Romsey Abbey with a sermon by the Bishop of Bristol the second day included music by the Royal Chapel of S. George's Windsor and the third day June 27th included a plain song service by the Choir of S. Alphege Southwark. Also in the book is a potted history of the abbey and the lyrics and sheet music for the event. "Our story covers ten centuries of English History. What vast changes have taken place in those thousand years! Languages have died out. Nations have risen and fallen. Empires have been founded and have passed away." "Romsey Abbey is a parish church of the Church of England in Romsey a market town in Hampshire England. Until the dissolution it was the church of a Benedictine nunnery. It is now the largest parish church in the county since Christchurch Priory is now in Dorset. The church was originally built during the 10th century as part of a Benedictine foundation. The surviving church is the town's outstanding feature which is all the more remarkable because the abbey as a nunnery would have been less well financially endowed than other religious establishments of the time." .
