Bufalini Maurizio

Hymns: Translated or Imitated from the German to which is Prefixed a Preface Giving an account of the origins of the lutheran Hymns
Edinburgh United Kingdom: Partridge and co Paternoster Row 1860. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Fine. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. Green Cloth Embossed Covers With Gilt title on Cover. Printed by Thomas Danks 9 crane court Fleet Street. Many sources give Danks as Author. Book inscribed on first overleaf "To Alexander Berry Esq Of St Leonards Sydney New South Wales. With Respectful Compliments and good wishes of the Author. Kinnell 31 Oct 1867" Author is given as by a Clergyman to which is annotated "of the church of Scotland" in the same hand as the inscription on the prior page. Im guessing Kinnell is The town in Scotland and home of the Author. Alexander Berry was a wealthy merchant Member of the Legislative Council and landowner Born in Fife Scotland in 1781 died 1873. Also inscribed at the end of the preface in the same hand " Kinnell = Manse 12 April 1860 George Walker" The preface also contains a few correction made by the author in 1860. Presumably he corrected his personal copies and later inscribed some and gave them away to friends and persons of influence.

Partridge and co Paternoster Row hardcover

CAMERON D.K.
The so-called 'Crofter' trology complete. Comprising: 'The Ballad and the Plough', 'Willie Gavin, Crofter Man' and 'The Cornkister Days'.
3 vols., 8vo., First Edition, with numerous plates, neat contemporary inscription on front free endpaper of second volume; cloth, gilt backs, all very good, clean copies in the dustwrapper. The trilogy comprises 'The Ballad and the Plough. A Portrait of the Life of the Old Scottish Farmtouns' (1978), 'Willie Gavin, Crofter Man. Portrait of a Vanished Lifestyle' (1980) and 'The Cornkister Days. Portrait of a Land and its Rituals' (1984). David Kerr Cameron's masterly study of the old Scottish rural way of life is carefully structured. In the first volume he tells of the larger farms or 'farmtouns'; in the second he examines the more numerous smallholdings or crofts. In his final volume he broadens the focus to include the life of the fields, the seasons and rituals, and the culture of the agrarian background in general. In its scope, its detail and its rigorous objectivity the trilogy is unique. A handsome set of an important contribution to the agricultural history of Scotland.
