‎WG² 21. - Der Arzt, Schriftsteller, Satiriker und Publizist Leopold Hermann Oskar Panizza (1853-1921) attackierte in seinen teils grotesken, teils satirischen Schriften den wilhelminischen Obrigkeitsstaat, die katholische Kirche, sexuelle Tabus und bürgerliche Moralvorstellungen. Als literarischer Individualist nimmt er eine Sonderrolle in der deutschen Literaturgeschichte ein; sein Schreibstil war spontan, flüchtig und unkonventionell, bediente sich ab 1893 einer phonetischen Orthographie. Das von spektakulären Literaturskandalen begleitete Werk Oskar Panizzas ist kaum von seiner bewegten Lebensgeschichte zu trennen: Nach einer streng pietistischen Erziehung und einer von Leistungsverweigerung geprägten Schulzeit wurde er Assistenzarzt in der Psychiatrie, wandte sich aber bald der Literatur zu. Seine blasphemischen Provokationen brachten ihn nach einem aufsehenerregenden Prozess 1895 ein Jahr lang wegen Gotteslästerung ins Gefängnis. Er gab die deutsche Staatsangehörigkeit auf und ging ins Exil nach Zürich und, nachdem er dort ausgewiesen worden war, nach Paris. Nach Erscheinen seines Gedichtbandes Parisjana 1899 lief eine internationale steckbriefliche Fahndung wegen Majestätsbeleidigung nach ihm, und sein gesamtes in Deutschland verbliebenes Vermögen wurde eingezogen. Deshalb nach Deutschland zurückgekehrt, endete der ehemalige Irrenarzt Panizza, der sich offenbar während seines Studiums mit Syphilis infiziert hatte, selbst als paranoider, von Wahnvorstellungen und Halluzinationen beherrschter Geisteskranker in einer Nervenklinik. Nach 16 Jahren in der Heilanstalt starb er 1921 im Bewusstsein, als Dichter gescheitert zu sein: ?Ich hab umsunst gelebt?. - Noch im Gefängnis hatte Panizza die vorliegende Streitschrift "Dialoge im Geiste Huttens" und das Pamphlet "Abschied von München" verfasst, mit dem er sich programmatisch von Deutschland abwandte und seine Emigration in die Schweiz ankündigte. Unter den einfachen und derben Gefangenen und Aufsehern war der Gefängnisgeistliche Friedrich Lippert, der spätere Vormund Panizzas, sein einziger Gesprächspartner. Eine Folge der Demütigungen im Gefängnis war eine deutliche Politisierung Panizzas, der die psychischen und physischen Erniedrigungen durch Wärter und Gefangene als systematischen Teil des staatlichen Strafvollzugs auffasste. Als er im August 1896 nach München zurückkehrte, traf die starke Veränderung, welche die Haftzeit im Wesen Panizzas verursacht hatte, die meisten seiner Freunde wie ein Schock. Er wirkte abgezehrt und bleich, war zu einem eigenbrötlerischen Skeptiker geworden. Gut einen Monat nach seiner Haftentlassung beantragte Panizza die Entlassung aus der Bayerischen Staatsangehörigkeit und zog im Oktober 1896 nach Zürich, wo beide Werke publiziert wurden während das nur noch fragmentarisch erhaltene Tagebuch über die Haftzeit ungedruckt blieb. - Einband minimal fingerfleckig und angestaubt, sonst tadellos. Kopfschnitt und Vorsatz gering stockfleckig, sonst sehr gutes und sauberes Exemplar der seltenen Erstausgabe.‎
