Entre les deux, le plus long règne de l'histoire d'Angleterre : soixante-quatre années (1837-1901) pendant lesquelles une jeune fille gaie, impulsive, insouciante se mue en une digne vieille dame dont la sévérité deviendra légendaire. Pourquoi cette image pétrifiée ? Victoria n'a jamais masqué des élans contradictoires.
