Faint glue remnant on the front pastedown beneath the jacket flap where a discreetly placed bookplate appears to have been removed; covers a bit rubbed and used; very good in a moderately rubbed dust jacket spine darkened slightly and with a touch of wear. 8vo 251pp; terracotta cloth. Exposé on South American sex-trafficking by an inventor of modern investigative journalism. Londres was an adventurous reporter travelling the world and uncovering a variety of scandals and untold stories on topics ranging from the penal colonies in the French West Indies the Indian independence movement lunatic asylums the drug trade and the Tour de France cycling race. He was killed in a suspicious shipboard fire while returning from an investigation in China at age forty seven. The highest French journalism award the equivalent of the American Pulitzer Prize is named for Londres and he is thought to have been a model for the beloved cartoon character Tintin. Unclipped DJ 7/6 net is paper and is soiled and edge chipped with two 1/2" tears. ‎In folio (50x58 cm il foglio). Esemplare in magnifica coloritura coeva ed in ottime condizioni di conservazione. Magnifica e vivida tiratura di questa celeberrima carta del territorio della Manica realizzata, per la prima volta da Matthaus Seutter nel 1730 che la riprodusse in diversi atlanti compositi. Venne poi ripresa, aggiornata e corretta dal suo successore e cognato (sposò una delle figlie di Seutter), il cartografo, editore ed incisore Tobias Conrad Lotter (1717 - 1777). Lotter, si formò alla bottega di Matthaus Seutter per il quale lavorò. Alla morte di Seutter ne rilevò l’attività che portò avanti fino al 1777 anno della sua morte. L’attività passo poi al figlio, Matthias Albrecht Lotter. Tobias Conrad fu uno dei più apprezzati cartografi del settecento. La mappa copre l'Inghilterra sudorientale, compresa Londra e l'intera lunghezza del fiume Tamigi, da Gloucester e Salisbury allo stretto di Dover e dall'Oxfordshire all'Isola di Wight. Le coste della Normandia sono coperte da Calais a Havre De Grace. La mappa di Lotter riprende quella di Seutter combinando elementi di carte nautiche e mappe tradizionali con l’indicazione della profondità marina e ombreggiature che indicano pericoli sottomarini in tutto il Canale della Manica, nel Mare del Nord e nello stretto di Dover. In fondo, al centro della mappa, appare un elaborato titolo allegorico di cartiglio. Il cartiglio presenta divinità greche tra cui Poseidone ed Ermes, oltre a mercanti, api mellifere e navi mercantili. Esemplare in ottime condizioni di conservazione ed ad ampi margini.‎

An evocative piece of booktrade and London local government ephemera. 2pp 8vo. Printed on a leaf of shiny art paper. Worn and creased; folded twice. On one side ‘L. W. Bondy’ addresses the ‘Elector’ beginning: ‘You are being asked to vote again on June 25th because the Conservatives have made one of their newly elected Councillors an Alderman.’ Boasts that Labour ‘gave Holborn many new things’ when it controlled Holborn council between 1945 and 1949: ‘London’s best Council flats the Oasis a children’s library the Darby and Joan Club and Social Centre the St. Giles Children’s Playground entertainments’. In the margin is a biography ends: ‘During the War was engaged in Political Intelligence work. Worked actively for Spanish Medical Aid during their Civil War.’ and photograph of him holding a pipe. Label on page addressed in autograph to ‘Mr. Andrew Block / 4 Bloomsbury Crt. / W.C.1.’ In autograph at foot of page: ‘Hope you are back from your Holiday Andy.
