1st edition. Original peach colored printed wrappers, stitched, 88 pages. Singerman 1461. His lawyer, Trenor W. Park, had moved from his native Vermont to California in 1852, where he was counsel to the Vigilance Committee and became involved with Fremont in the Mariposa Mine; Stanly was a North Carolina Congressman who had moved to San Francisco in the 1850's. (Strauss, David Friedrich) Carl Friedrich Goschel, Julius Schaller, Karl Rosenkranz, Karl Phil Fischer
ANTI-STRAUSS - ONE BOUND HARDCOVER VOLUME OF 4 BOOKS DISPUTING THE WORK OF DAVID FRIEDRICH STRAUSS
One bound volume of 4 original first edition works refuting the conclusions of David Strauss. The 4 works are: 1 Beitrage zur Spekulativen Philosophie von Carl Friedrich Goschel Berlin 1838 284p. 2 Der Historische Christus und die Philosophie von Julius Schaller Leipzig 1838 137p. 3 Kritik der Principien der Strauss'schen Glaubenslehre Leipzig 1845 72p. 4 Die Speculative Dogmatik von Dr. David Freidr. Struss Parts one and two complete Tubingen 1841 and 1842 102p. 132p. All works in German. All bound in one large octavo volume with 3/4 dark brown leather with brown marbled boards. Binding secure; some light toning and foxing and wear in text. Some curling of page edges. The articles are of various sizes but binding of all is nice and secure. The works are of slightly different sizes. Laid in are two nineteenth century newspaper articles about Strauss. David Strauss 1808 - 1874 began as a Christian but was led by his studies to doubt the historical Jesus and to see the Bible as myth. Wikipedia cites the Earl of Shaftesbury announcing in reaction to a work of Strauss that it was "the most pestilential book ever vomited out of the jaws of hell" which sort of gives one an ideal of vitriol Strauss faced. Gilt spine title. No ownership marks. Good Plus. Pictures available on request. . hardcover

(STRAUSS, Johann, George Wiegand, Emil Waldteufel, JS Cox, S Bourgoin, Victor Herbert, Rudolf Bial, Franz Behr, William Barton S
Sheet music: Dances: An Album of Late 19th Century Dance Sheet Music
1890. Softcover. Very Good. An album of late 19th century dance sheet music. Folio. Around 120 to 150 pages. Quarter black leather cloth covered boards leather spine with raised bands tooled with gilt in six compartments with "Dances" in gilt at the top of the spine the initials "N.L.D" in gilt on the front board and blue endpapers. Worn boards and spine with the foot of the spine coming loose both the front and rear hinge have been repaired some loss of the front fly leaf toned endpapers and a few tears throughout but there is no loss of the sheet music which remains bright and clean a few with an owner name or music shop stamp on the front cover and one song may possibly have the wrong cover "Lachtaubchen: La Rieuse" overall very good.

The album consists of 30 instrumental dance pieces for the piano many being schottisches and lancers. The collection includes many seemingly uncommon to rare pieces which are either unrecorded by OCLC or located in very small numbers and almost every piece is bound with its original front cover some include rear covers featuring ads as well. Highlights include:

"Possum Dance" with engraved illustration of dancing possums on the front cover by S. Bourgoin published by J. Van Loan & Co. copyright 1982 unrecorded by OCLC.

"New York Society Lancers" dedicated to The Ladies of New York by J.S. Cox published by J. Van Loan & Co. copyright 1889 unrecorded by OCLC.

"Dance Music from Mikado" with an elaborately engraved illustration on the front cover by George Wiegand published by Wm. A. Pond & Co. copyright 1883 two in OCLC a closed tear partially affecting the music though it remains complete.

"Hot Time in the Old Town Schottische" with a bold and colorful front cover illustration by Theo. A. Metz published by Willis Woodward & Co. copyright 1897 three of the schottische in OCLC.

"Society Yorke As Danced in New York Society" by W. Vincent Daly published by J. Van-Loan & Co. copyright 1890 unrecorded by OCLC.

And what appears to be an early edition of "Künstler-Quadrille" by Johann Strauss with dampstaining along the top throughout published by Carl Haslinger no printed copyright the text is in German so it's difficult to make out if this is the exact piece by Strauss or an interpretation of his work.

The album also includes multiple pieces by the composers George Wiegand and Emil Waldteufel.

A lovely collection of uncommon to rare late 19th century dance music. A complete list of titles is available upon request. unknown
