‎Seltene Originalausgabe. Grundlegende Biographie mit umfangreichem Dokumententeil. Preuß (1785 - 1868), wurde für sein Lebenswerk 1841 zum Historiographen der brandenburgischen Geschichte ernannt. Für dieses monumentale Werk hat es nach eigenem Angaben 16 Jahre der Vorbereitung bedurft, bevor der erste Band erscheinen konnte. Preuß machte in seiner Darstellung keinen Hehl aus seiner Bewunderung für seinen Helden, enthielt sich aber jeder Schmeichelei und "berechnenden Fürstendienerei". "Als wahre Schatzgrube für alle künftigen Biographen Friedrichs wird sein fleißiges Werk immer Bedeutung behalten" (ADB). Auf Preuß? Anregung veranlaßte die Regierung 1840 die Herausgabe der "Oeuvres de Frédéric Le Grand", deren Redaktion Preuß im Auftrag der Preußischen Akademie überlassen wurde. 1857 konnte er den Druck der 30 Bände abschließen. - Henning, Bibliographie, S. 76; ADB XXVI, 581 ff. - Aus verschiedenen Exemplaren zusammengesetzt. ‎Sophie Wilhelmine, comme son frère Frédéric II, aimait les décorations rococo, les chinoiseries, les ornements capricieux, peints ou sculptés, avec beaucoup de feuillages, de fleurs, de perroquets, de guirlandes et de rubans. La plume à la main, elle devenait autre : un mémorialiste féroce, réaliste, sans pitié, qui, à distance, effarouchait Sainte-Beuve. Les Mémoires de la Margrave ne se rapportent qu'à sa jeunesse et à son mariage. C'est le tableau le plus vivant, le plus coloré et certainement le plus exact de la cour prussienne au temps du terrible roi-sergent, Frédéric-Guillaume Ier, le collectionneur de grenadiers géants. C'est aussi le tableau de la petite cour de Bayreuth, assez misérable par la faute d'une mauvaise administration, avec un vieux prince ivrogne, qui était néanmoins populaire, parce que son seul plaisir était d'aller au cabaret. Ces Mémoires font penser parfois au plus féroce Saint-Simon. Ils font découvrir une Allemagne que nous ne connaissons guère, et aussi un écrivain français pittoresque, amusant et cruel. Désormais les frais d'envoi sont de 6 € seulement pour les livres jusqu'à 1 kg (colissimo suivi), pour la France métropolitaine.‎

‎Mémoires de Louis-Ferdinand de Prusse (1907-1994), deuxième fils du Kronprinz. Son père, fils aîné de l'empereur Guillaume II, est l’héritier présomptif du trône de Prusse et de la couronne impériale d’Allemagne. Louis-Ferdinand passe une bonne partie de son enfance près de Dantzig où son père est chef d’un régiment de hussards. Son onzième anniversaire, en 1918, coïncide avec l’abdication de son grand-père, le Kaiser, qui s’enfuit aux Pays-Bas, abandonnant sa famille à Potsdam en proie à la révolution. En 1931, il se rend en Amérique du Nord, et travaille pour la Ford Motor Company. Lors d’une soirée, il fait la connaissance de l’actrice Lili Damita et s’installe à Hollywood, pour vivre pleinement son histoire d’amour. Mais les choses se compliquent : son frère aîné ayant renoncé en juin 1933 à ses droits sur la couronne, Louis-Ferdinand doit songer à se marier en conformité avec son statut. Son père, dépêché par le Kaiser à Hollywood, le convainc de renoncer à son idylle avec Lili Damita et de rentrer en Allemagne. C’est une atmosphère empoisonnée que Louis-Ferdinand retrouve à son retour d'Amérique. L’arrivée au pouvoir d’Hitler a changé jusqu’à « l’ambiance » au sein de la famille royale de Prusse. Louis-Ferdinand se contente d’une opposition sourde au nazisme, mais n’oublie pas qu’il est l’héritier en second dans le cœur des monarchistes allemands, dont certains ont fait le mauvais calcul de penser qu’Hitler rétablirait les Hohenzollern dans leurs droits...
