brossura In occasione delle celebrazioni del bicentenario della nascita di Richard Wagner (1813-2013), questo volume propone una inedita e rifondativa lettura critico-filosofica dei temi più importanti dell'estetica wagneriana. Di norma considerato portatore di un confuso sistema ideologico-filosofico capace di influenzare le più tragiche esperienze del Novecento, oppure mera "appendice" alla ben più nota produzione artistica, il corpus degli scritti wagneriani è stato solo raramente indagato e valorizzato in quanto oggetto epistemologico autonomo, dotato cioè di un'autosufficiente capacità di significazione, e capace di aprire ad importanti considerazioni in ambito teorico-estetico. L'analisi approfondita degli scritti teorici wagneriani, proposta in questo volume, rivela invece come il percorso estetico del compositore tedesco compendi alcuni dei temi portanti del pensiero ottocentesco, e sia capace di dare conto di una vera e propria antropologia dell'essere sociale che la letteratura critica ha lungamente mancato di sistematizzare. Per gran parte del Novecento infatti, gli anatemi nietzscheani e adorniani sul "caso Wagner" hanno, di fatto, chiuso ad un possibile ripensamento dell'estetica wagneriana nei termini di una teoria non esclusivamente riducibile al suo forte impianto ideologico. Solo ultimamente, ad opera di filosofi come Badiou e Zizek, si è rivalutata l'eredità wagneriana quale momento dialettico di sottrazione del pensiero alle gabbie rigide della modernità.

Entête du journal La Liberté. A l'actrice Sarah Bernhardt (1844-1923) à propos d'une séance littéraire le dimanche suivant [31 octobre]. Il aurait aimé l'entendre dire son « souvenir de Faust » : « c'est seulement en vous écoutant, charmé, que je retrouverai dans ce "souvenir de Faust" l'idéal que je portais en moi, quand je l'ai écrit !. Mais enfin, pour vous-même et pour tout le monde - excepté moi - il vaut mieux que vous disiez les vers de [François] Coppée ». Il s'est aussi porté garant de Bernhardt en affirmant qu'elle serait bien présente le dimanche. Dans le catalogue de la bibliothèque de Sarah Bernhardt se trouvait un exemplaire d'un livre de Lorbac, Saint Pierre de Rome (n°581). On trouve peu de choses sur sa vie et même La Liberté n'annonce sa mort que par un entrefilet le 7 septembre 1903. Le Ménestrel l'annonce le 13 septembre en précisant son âge, 74 ans. [369]

Consequently most science fiction fans wrote off The Death Guard as pure myth a figment of Wells' prodigious imagination and for years it was considered a lost novel.
