br. Nell'antica Roma le donne non ebbero mai accesso alla carriera politica. Il modello di comportamento proposto alle matrone dal periodo arcaico fino all'età imperiale le escludeva da qualsiasi partecipazione alla vita della comunità, identificando nella casa la sede appropriata delle attività femminili. Nondimeno, tra la fine del II e il I secolo a.C., periodo segnato da lunghe guerre civili, gli uomini disertarono le sedi tradizionali della vita istituzionale, e sempre più di frequente le residenze private divennero il luogo delle decisioni e le matrone si sostituirono ai loro uomini, intervenendo in questioni di stato. In circostanze eccezionali portarono le proprie istanze anche all'esterno, nei luoghi tradizionali della politica e pressoché esclusivamente maschili: le strade di Roma, il foro, gli accampamenti militari. Diversi i contesti e le modalità della loro azione: la stipula o lo scioglimento di accordi matrimoniali, gravidi di ripercussioni politiche; l'educazione dei figli ai valori familiari e collettivi; la custodia della memoria gentilizia; il consiglio ai propri uomini su questioni di interesse comune; le incursioni nella vita militare. Esito di un periodo connotato da tratti di emergenza, tali iniziative non segnarono una svolta nella prassi politica romana; tuttavia l'intervento normalizzatore di Augusto, sedate le guerre civili e instaurato un nuovo modello di governo, tenne conto di queste esperienze, che influenzarono la condizione e l'azione delle donne della famiglia imperiale.

Napol�on Fran�ois Charles Joseph Bonaparte 20 March 1811 - 22 July 1832 Prince Imperial King of Rome Prince of Parma known as Franz Duke of Reichstadt from 1818 onward was the son of Napoleon I Emperor of the French and his second wife Archduchess Marie Louise of Austria. By Title III article 9 of the French Constitution of the time he was Prince Imperial but he was also known from birth as the King of Rome which Napoleon I declared was the courtesy title of the heir apparent. His nickname of L'Aiglon "the Eaglet" was awarded posthumously and was popularized by the Edmond Rostand play L'Aiglon. When Napoleon I abdicated on 4 April 1814 he named his son as Emperor. However the coalition partners that had defeated him refused to acknowledge his son as successor thus Napoleon I was forced to abdicate unconditionally a number of days later. Although Napoleon Fran�ois Bonaparte never actually ruled France he was briefly the titular Emperor of the French and is still generally referred to by historians as Napoleon II. RARE FIRST VOLUME of the final report of the excavations of the Persian and Hellenistic settlements at the site of Apollonia-Arsuf - an ancient city south of Caesarea, Israel. In Hellenistic and Roman Judea the city was called Apollonia (renamed in the late Roman era to Sozusa), and after falling to the Muslim conquest in 640 and fortified against Byzantine attacks, was known as Arsuf (Latinized Arsur). Re-conquered by the kingdom of Jerusalem in 1101, it was a strategically important fortress in the Third Crusade, during which the Battle of Arsuf (1191) was fought nearby. The fortress fell to the Mamluks in 1265 and was destroyed. The site of Arsuf (Tel Arshaf) is now in Herzliya municipality, Israel, and was intensively excavated from 1994 and opened for visitors as Apollonia National Park in 2002. This volume is the first in the series of three (in preparation). Contains many color and b&w plates and figures. 275x225mm. XVI+300 pages. Dark blue cloth Hardcover with gilt front cover and spine. Cover and spine somewhat stained/dirty. Cover upper corners wrinkled/slightly bumped. Spine edges rubbed. Spine bottom edge slightly wrinkled. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare report of excavations of an important cite in Persian, Hellenistic, Roman and medieval periods, is in good condition.
