‎Acquaforte, 1652 circa, priva di firma in lastra dove troviamo la sola indicazione del privilegio. Bellissima prova, impressa su carta vergata coeva, con margini, in perfetto stato di conservazione. Veduta panoramica di Roma raffigurante presa dagli Orti Farnesiani, con il Foro Romano in primo piano. LO stemma araldico di Luigi XIV, con le armi di Francia e Navarra, è inciso al centro con la scritta Dédié au Roy. “L’impianto di questa veduta di Campo Vaccino, dedicata a Luigi XIV, che spazia dal Campidoglio alla Basilica di Massenzio, appartiene alla seconda fase della sua produzione, contraddistinta dall’estrema precisione nella rappresentazione degli edifici. È probabile che l’artista abbia scelto come punto di vista gli Horti Farnesiani sul Palatino che gli permettevano una visione dall’alto della città. Oltre alla raffigurazione dei monumenti antichi, la veduta è caratterizzata, seppure in secondo piano, dalla presenza di numerose architetture moderne della zona nord-orientale di Roma, tra le quali la chiesa di S. Maria di Loreto, Villa Medici, il Quirinale e il palazzo del cardinale Mazzarino alle Quattro Fontane” (cfr. Barbara Jatta in "Roma Veduta" p. 167). Il Silvestre, incisore e disegnatore, nasce a Nancy nel 1621. Tra il 1638 e il 1641 viaggiò in Italia; si hanno notizie della sua presenza nella Penisola ancora nel 1643 e nel 1653. Il suo stile fu, all’inizio, piuttosto sciolto, ma dal 1643 in poi divenne più raffinato e delicato, acquisendo accuratezza e precisione senza essere asciutto, risultando a volte simile a quello di Jacques Callot o di Stefano della Bella, con i quali ebbe rapporti di amicizia. Accanto alle testimonianze per la Roma antica mostrò ben presto un grandissimo interesse per la città "moderna", divenendo uno dei precursori del vedutismo - non solo nel campo incisorio - anticipando artisti come Lievin Cruyl e Gaspar van Wittel. The heraldic coat of arms of Louis XIV, with the arms of France and Navarre, is engraved in the center with the inscription Dédié au Roy. The layout of this view of Campo Vaccino, dedicated to Louis XIV, ranging from the Capitol to the Basilica of Maxentius, belongs to the second phase of his production, marked by extreme precision in the representation of the buildings. It is likely that the artist chose as a point of view the Horti Farnesiani on the Palatine, which allowed him a view of the city from above. In addition to the depiction of ancient monuments, the view is characterized, albeit in the background, by the presence of numerous modern buildings in the north-eastern area of Rome, including the church of S. Maria di Loreto, Villa Medici, the Quirinale and the palace of Cardinal Mazzarino at the Quattro Fontane (see Barbara Jatta in "Roma Veduta" p. 167). Anche in quest’opera, sempre molto particolareggiata secondo lo stile tipico dell’artista, è forte l’influsso delle incisioni di Callot, sia nel linguaggio che nella costruzione della veduta, come ci conferma la quinta in primo piano con le mura vaticane"(cfr. ‎Ensemble de 8 lettres autographes signées à Yves Brayer. Combrit (dans le Finistère) et Paris, de 1928 à 1943. 8 p. de format divers.‎

‎Intéressante correspondance amicale et professionnelle du professeur à l’élève. 20 juillet 1928, il informe le jeune Brayer de son prochain voyage prévu pour l’Espagne et le sollicite pour des informations utiles. Il l’interroge également au sujet du Concours Chenavard. « Vous seriez gentil de me dire si mon atelier a été satisfait des résultats ». 10 février 1931. Brayer est arrivé à Rome. « J’ai été très heureux d’avoir le récit de votre arrivée. Je suis convaincu qu’avec la rapidité que vous mettez en toutes choses vous avez déjà fixé votre vie, prenant tout le bon et ne vous souciant pas de ce qui n’est pas tout à fait à votre convenance. Voyez surtout les amis capables d’alimenter votre gaité et votre ardeur ». Il souhaite le revoir à chaque retour à Paris, et lui assure de sa grande affection. « Trouvez en ici la nouvelle assurance avec tous mes souhaits de bon travail. Vous êtes un homme heureux dont les œuvres ne soulèvent que louanges. J’en ai encore eu dernièrement la preuve… ». 23 mai 1931. Il doit se rendre en Argentine afin d’organiser des conférences sur la peinture contemporaine française. « Dieu me préserve du voyage… J’ai dit à votre père tous mes regrets d’avoir emprunté une de vos aquarelles pour figurer en mauvaise place à la Coloniale. Vos camarades avaient compris qu’on leur offrait un mur du Palais des Beaux-Arts. En tout cas celles de vos œuvres qui y figurent font un excellent effet. De même au musée du Luxembourg. Confiance donc cher ami. Je n’ai pas à vous prêcher le travail, mais plutôt la méditation devant Michel-Ange, Raphael et le statuaire grec que vous verrez surtout au musée des Thermes… ». En effet Yves Brayer était depuis peu de temps à Rome. Fort de lui assurer son affection, « et combien vous savez tout ce qui vous touche me tient à cœur ». 13 septembre 1933. Il a appris que Brayer était revenu de Rome. « Que de choses vous avez vues pendant que je reprends éternellement les mêmes routes dans le voiturage de mon sémaphore. Pour ne pas courir après la fortune, ça ne veut pas dire qu’elle vienne me trouver dans mon lit, mais à son défaut j’ai la joie de mes enfants et petits enfants qui m’entourent. Je travaille régulièrement dans mon petit atelier au bout de mon jardin. Mes décorations pour Toulon sont virtuellement terminées. Il faut que je les accompagne d’un assez grand nombre d’autres toiles chez Charpentier où je dois les montrer en décembre. C’est un effort mais un aiguillon dont j’ai quelques fois besoin. Continuez mon cher ami à vous faire honneur et aussi à votre vieux professeur qui a eu en tous cas, le mérite d’augurer tout de suite fort bien de vous. Thiebault-Sisson m’a dit combien votre dernier salon lui avait plu. Landowski est heureux de vous avoir pour pensionnaire. Travaillez tranquillement, regardez attentivement et laisser libre cours à votre sensibilité… ». 18 août 1934. Il remercie le jeune peintre de sa fidèle affection qui lui est particulièrement précieuse. « Je commence à faire des jaloux pour avoir été votre premier professeur et j’en suis fier moi-même. Vous prolongez à Rome ! Comme vous avez raison puisque le travail marche. Vous voilà attaché à un lièvre où vous avez connu l’inquiétude et la mélancolie… ». En automne 1934, Y. B est militaire à Metz. « Je suis ravi de vous voir maniant gaiement le balai d’écurie, vous fils de général, prix de Rome et dont le talent est reconnu de tous. Votre lettre remue pour moi de vieux souvenirs… ». 1943, sera pour Lucien Simon l’évocation de souvenirs. « Je suis très touché de votre fidèle souvenir et je me féliciterai toute ma vie du jour où vous êtes entré dans mon atelier, voilà déjà bien longtemps, vous étiez "chérubin" et vous êtes un homme plein de talent, d’esprit déjà mur. J’ai passé la journée où j’ai revu avec plaisir quelques unes des études que vous aviez exposées chez Saluden (galerie à Brest créée en 1907 par Anna Saluden où de nombreux peintres exposaient, dont Sérusier, Emile Bernard, Robert Delaunay pour n’en citer que quelques uns) et qu’y faisaient très bonne figure … ».‎
