A lovely book of poems with verses interwoven using characters named Beulah Belinda John and David. From American poet and playwright Florence Wilkinson who studied at Sorbonne and the Bibliotheque Nationale of Paris. She is also the author of several novels including 'The Lady of the Flag Flowers' and 'The Silent Door'. Charmingly illustrated by Ethel Franklin Betts. In the original decorative cloth binding. Externally cloth is darkened with rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Internally firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean with the odd spot or handling mark. Annotations in manuscript ink on the verso. <br /> <br /> Welch worked as a newspaper journalist and activist for women's suffrage in Topeka Kansas later moving to California and marrying prominent artist and writer Rob Wagner. In 1929 the pair founded "Script" a left-leaning weekly literary film magazine that often published interviews and articles concerning progressive and radical topics in Hollywood. Welch was also an early supporter of writers William Saroyan and Ray Bradbury publishing their work extensively in the magazine. After Wagner's death Welch would remarry early aviator James L. Breese with whom she lived in New Mexico and California until her death in 1959. <br /> <br /> 10 x 8 inches. Exlib with call number near spine and crossed out on title page and stamps crossed out on inside front and rear covers and on author's photo. Spine and edges of wraps have been bound with blue fabric tape; the call number and a spine title are written on this tape. Tape has offset to endpages as has some ink from inside cover stamp. Minor adhesion damage to margins of title page and more heavily to rear author's bio page and inside rear cover.
