Acquerello con tracce di matita misure: mm 276 x 215 Pittore, incisore e docente italiano. Dopo aver trascorso la giovinezza ad Otranto, nel 1819 si trasferisce a Napoli per frequentare lo studio del paesaggista tedesco Wilhelm Hubert (1787 - 1871) dove conosce Giacinto Gigante (1806 - 1876). Con quest'ultimo prosegue la formazione, studia le tecniche incisorie quali la litografia e l'acquaforte e diventa allievo dell'olandese Pitloo (1790 - 1837) fondatore della Scuola di Posillipo. Sicuramente la permanenza in questa scuola influenza il suo modus operandi, non più rigidamente accademico, ma ancora legato all'uso della camera lucida per la costruzione di vedute architettoniche, interni e scene popolari. Tra il 1829 e il '34 è impegnato nell'impresa delle illustrazioni a stampa del Viaggio Pittorico del Regno delle Due Sicilie assieme al collega e amico Giacinto Gigante. Viaggiando spesso in Italia, sul finire degli anni '30, sperimenta la veduta dal vero propedeutica alla traduzione in acqueforte. La sua fama è legata soprattutto a vedute d'interni realizzate ad acquarello in monocromo seppia. Nel foglio mediante un'attenta descrizione dei particolari e una prospettiva dal basso verso l'alto viene rappresentato l'interno della Cappella Palatina, a Palermo. In particolare la visione della navata centrale verso l'abside e il catino absidale. Vengono descritte le colonne con capitelli corinzi, i lampadari, l'ambone, i mosaici bizantini nel suo rifulgente splendore. In primo piano diversi fedeli inginocchiati con mani conserte ascoltano la santa messa. L'uso morbido delle acquarellature rende la composizione solenne e i forti giochi luministici ricalcano l'interesse dell'artista per la resa pittorica.

"La seconda parte della campagna garibaldina nell'Italia meridinale fu narrata al pari della prima - la favolosa Spedizione dei Mille - in cosí gran numero di pubblicazini dogni specie, che un nuovo libro sull'argomento potrebbe essere giudicato superfluo, e tale sarebbe di certo se non riferisse nulla di nuovo. Ma, appunto, perché io pubblico molti documenti finora non mai apparsi per le stampe e parecchi per di più affatto ignorati, confido che il mio lavro non abbia a incontrare un tanto severo giudizio. / Ho trovato la massima parte di questi documenti negli incartamenti Sirtori e Orsini alla "Ambrosiana" di Milano e in quello Guastalla al "Museo del Risorgimento" della stessa città, ove ho pure trovato qualcosa di interessante nell'Archivio Garibaldino, nelle carte Bertani e in altre Raccolte mnori: Canzio, Missori, Bruzzesi, ecc. (...) Nulla del tutto, poi, ho appreso da testimoni oculari. Il tempo ha ormai inaridita questa fonte (...) a non molto mi è servita, la ur necessaria, e per qualche località ripetuta, visita dei paesi nei quali si svolse l'azione. LETTERA AUTOGRAFA FIRMATA, non datata, sull'OSPIZIO MARINO di PALERMO da lui fondato e su un OSPIZIO marino da avviare a NICE.
Scritta a penna su tre facciate di cm. 21,1X13,5 a un "Gentilssimo Signore" a noi ignoto, la lettera accompagnava "gli stampati che ho potuto trovare, tranne il Resoconto del 1875...La storia del nostro OSPIZIO MARINO si compendia nella sola carità dei cittadini e nell'ajuto grandissimo incontrato presso tutt le autorità locali... le fiere di beneficenza, le lotterie etc... Se a NIZZA hanno già una dotazione, io credo che sarà cosa ben facile di far sogere colà un'asilo per poveri scrofolosi..." e si augura che "la simpatica e bella NIZZA abbia anch'essa un'Ospizio Marino...". ALBANESE (Palermo 1834 - Napoli 1889) , medico di GARIBALDI, di cui curò le ferite riportate in Aspromente e al Monte Suello; nel 1873 fondò l'Ospizio Marino tuttora in funzione; gli è dedicata una via, il Giardino di piazza Marina a PALERMO e un suo busto è lì e nel giardino dell'Ospizio. Sepolto nel cimitero di S. Maria del Gesù, cappella Albanese, costruita dall'architetto Franesco Paolo Palazzotto, fratello di un eroe della spedizioe garibaldina. Il collegamento con Nizza, patria di Garibaldi, non è certo casuale.

Volume in 8°, brossura rigida, titolo in oro al dorso, sguardie, frontespizio, dedicatoria, 344 pp., comprensive di indice, pubblicazioni tematiche inserite. Un’indagine storica, di grande respiro sulle vicende antiche e recenti del popolo palermitano. La narrazione inizia con la storia della fondazione della città e passo passo continua fino alla fine del XIX secolo, sotto il regno di Umberto I, in uno scorrere di interessanti notizie che l’autore trae in maggior parte, come lui stesso dichiara, dalle opere dell’erudivo Cav. Isidoro La Lumia. L’opera è inoltre arricchita da tre inserti: uno applicato al foglio di sguardia anteriore, di 7 pagine, contenente un breve rescritto sugli albori e con una cronologia dei Sovrani della Sicilia, un articolo di giornale (datato 1928) intitolato”Lettera inedita di Giuseppe Mazzini” in cui si tratta di Palermo “dopo l’esaltazione delle epiche gesta del 1860”, inserito a proposito a fronte del capitolo “Palermo funestata dagli orrori della settimana anarchica nel 1866”, ed infine un lungo articolo de “La Stampa” del 1945 intitolato “L’Inghilterra e la Sicilia - Precedenti storici del Separatismo” firmato Franco de Agazio. Infine, applicata all’interno del piatto posteriore, una carta di bibliografia siciliana, in parte dattiloscritta ed in parte manoscritta. Volume in bello stato di conservazione, lieve brunitura dovuta al tipo di carta. Un raro insieme, interessante, ed estremamente efficace.
