Mouffe (?°1957, Belgium) is a painter who does not paint. His sculpted paintings are made up of many thin glaze layers each adding their own meaning and merging into an almost immaterial surface, a barrel full of possibilities. Mouffe creates breathing bodies with subtle bulges emerging from the interior of the cloth, which behaves as skin: at the same time a protective boundary and a vulnerable opening. A skin that contains and protects, but which is also a passage to the outside world. The title Alphabet naturally meant the basics of the work as it stood out for the years to come. They outlined the possibilities this would offer to all future works. The book is percieved as a conversation. Sometimes a monologue Michel Mouffe makes with himself, sometimes between him and Joele Benzakin. Alongside this conversation that is reproduced as a real conversation, full of silences and pauzes, the work is shown on large scale.‎

‎Herkenrode abdij en levend monument‎

‎Hardcover, 160 pagina's, NL, 290 x 250 mm, in prima staat, met mooie afb. in kleur en z/w. ISBN 9057201526. In 1179 verliest graaf Gerard van Loon de strijd met de prins-bisschop van Luik. Noodgedwongen verhuist hij zijn machtscentrum van Borgloon naar Kuringen aan de grens van het prinsbisdom. In de nabijheid van zijn nieuwe burcht verkoopt hij een stuk grond aan een broeder met de opdracht een abdij als begraafplaats voor hem en zijn nazaten op te richten. Met de opbrengst van de verkoop bekostigt de graaf zijn deelname aan de tweede kruistocht. De graaf sneuvelt echter in Acco. Zijn lichaam wordt teruggebracht en in 1194 bijgezet in de abdijkerk. Dit graf is de ideale plek om te wachten op de verrijzenis uit de doden: de graaf zal immers eeuwig door een vloed van zegeningen van de biddende kloosterlingen overstroomd worden. Zijn oudste zoon en opvolger Lodewijk II van Loon huwt in 1203 met de 15-jarige Ada, gravin van Holland. Door dit huwelijk raakt de graaf verwikkeld in de successiestrijd om het graafschap Holland. Hij komt echter als verliezer uit de strijd en het koppel trekt zich terug in Kuringen. Waarschijnlijk heeft de machtige en rijke Ada een enorme invloed gehad op de ontwikkeling van de abdij in deze beginperiode. Misschien is zij diegene die besliste om van de abdij een cisterciënzerabdij voor vrouwen te maken. Het is immers dikwijls onder invloed van gewichtige adellijke vrouwen dat men kiest voor een vrouwenabdij. Hier telt ook het middeleeuwse concept dat maagden als bruiden van Jezus een veel hogere zuiverheid en dus een hogere ?bid?kwaliteit bezitten dan hun mannelijke collega?s! De oorkondes uit deze periode bevestigen de status van de abdij. De officiële opname in 1217 in de cisterciënzerorde vormt hierbij zeker het spirituele hoogtepunt. Tijdens de volgende decennia zal de abdij uitgroeien tot één van de invloed?rijk?ste abdijen in de Nederlanden.‎
