‎[COSTA RICA/PANAMA/PÉROU] Carte réduite de la côte occidentale de l'Amérique depuis 9.° de latitude nord jusqu'à 7.° de latitude sud.‎

‎1821. 846 x 562 mm.‎

‎Belle et grande carte marine figurant les côtes Pacifique du Costa Rica, du Panama, de la Colombie, de l'Equateur et du Pérou, depuis le Golfo Dulce jusqu'à Lambayeque. La carte est issue du Neptune des côtes occidentales d'Amérique sur le Grand Océan, et a été dressée d'après les observations astronomiques et nautiques faites en 1791 par des officiers de la marine espagnole. Elle a été publiée en 1821 par le Dépôt Général de la Marine sous le ministère du baron Portal. La région comprise entre Quito et Cuenca en Equateur donne des indications sur la première mission géodésique française menée entre 1736 et 1743 afin de de mesurer un arc du méridien pour vérifier la forme réelle de la Terre. En carton figurent 5 profils côtiers, dont l'île Gorgona, située au large de Cali en Colombie. Pliure centrale très légèrement brunie, sinon bel exemplaire.‎

Les plans ont été levés en 1823 par les enseignes de vaisseau Lartigue et Flury à bord de la frégate la Clorinde, commandée par le baron de Mackau, et publiés en 1824 par le Dépôt Général de la Marine sous le ministère du marquis de Clermont-Tonnerre. Le plan de Mollendo montre également deux profils côtiers. Bel exemplaire.‎
