Maracle, Lee
My Conversations With Canadians
"'My Conversations With Canadians' is the book that "Canada 150" needs. On her first book tour at the age of 26, Lee Maracle was asked a question from the audience, one she couldn't possibly answer at that moment. But she has been thinking about it ever since. As time has passed, she has been asked countless similar questions, all of them too big to answer, but not too large to contemplate. These questions, which touch upon subjects such as citizenship, segregation, labour, law, predjudice and reconcilliation (to name a few), are the heart of 'My Conversations with Canadians'. In prose essays that are both conversational and direct, Maracle seeks not to provide any answers to these questions she has lived with for so long. Rather, she thinks through each one using a multitude of experiences she's had as a Canadian, a First Nations leader, a woman and mother and grandmother over the course of her life... A tour de force exploration into the writer's own history and a re-imagining of the future of our nation. Book

Vancouver: University of British Columbia Press. Very Good in Very Good dust jacket. 1983. First Edition. Hardcover. 0774801832 . Published in the depths of an industry downturn in the 1980s "while this book is not an expose of government or industry policies it builds up a case that together capital and the provincial state created a vulnerable hinterland economy on the base of a rich but limited resource. Based on data from governmental and non-government documents and reports and on interviews with industry officials and workers this book makes a significant contribution to our knowledge of single-industry towns the sociology of work and the sociology of women in Canada. Offers substantial material on the forestry industry of British Columbia which can be adapted to similar regions and other resource-based industries." - dust jacket. Author was a professor of sociology at the University of British Columbia. 454 pages. Bibliography. Index. Clean bright and unmarked with very light wear. Dust jacket now preserved in archival-grade Brodart. An excellent copy of this scholarly work.; 8vo . University of British Columbia Press hardcover
