‎The Saga of the West Coast Loggers‎

‎Vancouver British Columbia Canada: Self-Published 1968. Book. Good. Paperback. First Edition. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. 108 pages. "What I have learned of the logging and loggers has been picked up in the Coast districts of Washington and British Columbia. That I have tried to picture unusual characters amongst loggers and have said little of the unnumbered thousands of fine upstanding many men in the industry is not that I'm unaware of them. The unusual always get more attention. In the Saga I speak from personal knowledge not heresay. And the characters I attempt to picture are not fictitious nor are the incidents in which they are involved." - from author's note to the reader. Contains fifty-four poems with titles such as: The Tyee Logger; The Logging Camp; Rough House Pete; Sad News at Spry; The Ballad of B__ S___ Bill; First the Kaiser Then Hitler; When the Sun Begins to Shine; To Fred Elworthy; Song of the Axe; To Felix Penne; To Be Read at a Stag Party of a Friend; Burns Night; Despondency; Vancouver; Gay Nymph; The New Chief; and many more. Prior owner's name inside front cover. Moderate wear. Binding intact. A sound copy of this wonderful compilation of historical northwest coastal logging lore. Self-Published Paperback‎

‎When the Work's All Done This Fall : Voices of Early Canada the Settling of the Land‎

‎301 pages including bibliography. Remainder dot on top edge of text. Spine leans a little to right. "I believe the way to tell farm history, and in the process the history of this country, is in the words of those who cleared and tended the land or who, at least, were in attendance as witnesses to farm life. In the past several years, I have been collecting hundreds of excerpts from eighteenth and nineteenth-century writings that in any way touch on Canadian agriculture. The scope of this book is pre-1900 and all of Canada... This book is for the land lover, layman or otherwise, and not for the agricultural scientist, statistician, footnoting historian or economist." - the author. With some black and white illustrations. ‎Canada. Ediz. a colori‎

‎ill., ril.

‎Sawlogs on Steel Rails‎

‎British Columbia: The Forest Industry Senior's History Committee. Fine. 1995. First Hardcover Edition. Hardcover. 0969944802 . Over one inch thick. "The first major sawmill in British Columbia was the Port Alberni Anderson mill of 1860/1864 which was closed because it ran out of logs. Manager Gilbert Sproat advised the owners that to get logs to the mill they would need to build a railway. The owners refused so the mill was closed. It was to be almost fifty years until the first logging railway was built in 1912. The last train of logs was delivered to MacMillan Bloedel's Franklin River Camp A in 1957. In the intervening period more than thirty locomotives operated on hundreds of miles of railway grade in the area. Thousands of men were involved in a large number of logging camps big and small. This 45 year period of railway logging is the subject of our story." - from back board. Abundantly illustrated in black and white. Glossy illustrated boards.
