‎"Tranquilles, en 1950, Ethel et Julius Rosenberg et leurs deux fils vivaient dans l'East Side de New York. Un jour, brusquement, leur vie de famille se désintégra. Julius. puis Ethel, furent jetés en prison. Accusés d'avoir commis «le crime du siècle», ils furent finalement exécutés sur la chaise électrique. Dans cet ouvrage. les enfants racontent pour la première fois leur propre histoire. Ils retracent le cauchemar des années 1950-1954, le procès, les appels, l'exécution de leurs parents, les chicanes judiciaires sur leur propre sort. La correspondance de Julius et Ethel, en grande partie inédite. révèle leurs soucis, leurs émotions et leurs aspirations politiques. Ils s'efforçaient de rassurer leurs enfants et de leur donner courage, alors que le gouvernement des Etats-Unis leur chuchotait : « Avouez ou mourez !». Leurs fils décrivent également leurs parents adoptifs. Anne et Abel Meeropol, qui leur assurèrent la sécurité et l'équilibre affectif. Ils demeurent convaincus de l'innocence de leurs parents et présentent des arguments et des témoignages, dont certains n'ont jamais encore été publiés. Robert Meeropol est diplômé de l'Université de Michigan. Il a enseigné l'anthropologie au Western New England College et prépare une thèse de doctorat sur l'anthropologie urbaine. Il participe au Comité américain pour la révision du procès Rosenberg. Michael Meeropol est diplômé des Universités de Swarthmore (USA) et de Cambridge (G.B.). Il est docteur de l'Université de Wisconsin et maitre de conférences au Western England College. Il est membre de « L'union for radcal political economies» et participe au Comité américain pour la révision du procès Rosenberg." ‎Première publication française des lettres rédigées par les époux Rosenberg depuis l'arrestation de Julius le 17 juillet 1950 jusqu'au 31 mai 1953. Julius Rosenberg (ingénieur électricien, né en 1918 à New York) et son épouse Ethel Rosenberg (née en 1915 à New York) sont un couple de Juifs new-yorkais communistes arrêtés pour espionnage au profit de l’URSS. Julius fut arrêté le 17 juillet 1950 et Ethel le 11 août. Ils furent jugés coupables le 5 avril 1951 et exécutés sur la chaise électrique le 19 juin 1953 dans la prison de Sing Sing. Désormais les frais d'envoi sont de 6 € seulement pour les livres jusqu'à 1 kg (colissimo suivi), pour la France métropolitaine.‎

‎1924. Manuscript. Good. octavo 51 pages written on letterhead of the Department of the Interior United States Geological Survey rectos only neatly inscribed in pencil and ink very good. This account appears to have been a draft and may have been intended for publication there are numerous corrections changes and emendations throughout the work. The unidentified author traveled by rail from Yellowstone to Seattle and from there to Alaska by steamer. The author visited Ketchikan Seward Anchorage Fairbanks where time was spent with the Mayor Valdez Juneau Prince William Sound Cordova Columbia Glacier etc. The author comments upon the events of the trip and gives interesting information on accommodations for tourists describes the scenery and topography a twelve page description of Columbia Glacier and also describes the towns and cities visited. "Valdez represents the tragedy of mining towns. It is really a dead mining town & it is a real tragedy to walk through and see the great number of vacant houses. Really it is hard to understand the lure of such a place." "Anchorage was created as an operating base for the construction of the railroad and has large permanent railroad yards & shops. It is the youngest and most up to date town in Alaska. For the tourist however it has little of interest." "Fairbanks a town almost exclusively of log cabins. the city is isolated because of its great distance from anywhere and people of the States do not care to spend so much time in traveling to reach the place." <br />‎

‎Baltimore: The Patapsco Land Company 1874. First edition. Hardcover. Octavo. 100 pages. Bound in brick red cloth over boards with upper board titled in gilt. A few light extremity rubs. Slight age-toning inside. Map has a few short clean separations at fold intersections. Fine condition overall. Large fold-out map. This is a detailed prospectus seeking investment in the newly reorganized Patapsco Land Company which intended to turn its holdings at Curtis Bay into a major seaport and railhead. The background information included therefore gives much of interest relating to the evolution of shipping and railroads at Baltimore.<br /> <br /> The large map in a rear pocket shows the planned layout of the city of Pennington named for the PLC's controlling family. A copy of this prospectus was even delivered to the U.S. House of Representatives in hopes of getting buy-ins from major players in the shipping and railroad industries which would be essential for the plan to succeed. Alas despite the seemingly solid plan and convincing sales pitch the PLC could not get sufficient capital together to pull it off. And thus there is no town of Pennington Maryland today. ‎Letters and Documents of the Butcher Family Recording some Family History.‎

‎<p>Small family archive of letters 10 pieces in all some folio size other basic letter sheet size over 20 pages of text some docketed on reverse. Most pages are aged and browned some chips and tears a few holes at center folds a little staining but otherwise about very good. This family archive begins with a letter dated June 14 1840 and provides a glimpse of life in still early America during the pioneer period. In the first letter which is. from near Danville Missouri daughter Emily Lee and Adam Lee to father Ely Butcher in Randolph Virginia asking for money. Emily complains about poor health but tells him to consider moving out there where good land could be had. Another letter dated September 24 1840 is from Rock Island County Illinois from John H. Butcher to his father Ely in Randolph Virginia. John Butcher a farmer tells his father he is in "tolerable good health" but talks about some hard times where he lives. He comments on the rivers being very low and it appears his shipping costs were double what they should be. He stays he finds times very hard in this country harder than expected and adds he couldn't get $1000 for his home at that time. He even makes a comment about a split in government but that the Whigs may feel they won writing not totally clear on this comment. On January 2 1842 from Danville Missouri we see another letter from Emily Lee to her father Ely Butcher in Randolph Virginia. This letter has a sad tone as Emily complains she hasn't gotten a letter from her father in almost two years despite writing to him a few times. She says she feels neglected by her father and brothers and times are very hard. She mentions store credit is not available and they lost a horse. According to Emily her in-laws are no help and she has eight children to take care of. She tells her father she will see him in the spring and she expects him to do something about her situation. Seems like Ely's kids are often in need and asking dad for help. On August 20 1844 John Butcher In Rock Island Illinois to Ely Butcher in Beverly Randolph County Virginia appears to be visited by his sister and his brother-in-law and sister Adam Lee and Emily lee. The farm is doing well and he indicates that oat and corn prices are "tolerable" and he expects to produce 800 bushes of corn and wheat. It appears his sister wants a divorce and it also appears John asks his father to intercede with his uncle Peyton about the land he uses. He seems to be tired of being a renter. He asks his father to negotiate a deal and help him pay for it. He apologizes for the tone of the letter but sounds a little desperate. There are also what appears to be some detailed receipts for the goods of Ely Butcher the dates appear to be 1842 and 1843. In fourth receipt the date is unclear but could be as late as 1866. A final document is a marriage certificate for Hannah Hart Butcher and the date is November 22 1911.</p>‎
