‎Dalls Texas: Burton Lumber Corporation Book. Very Good. Hardcover. Brown imitation leather Wilson-Jones Loose Leaf Minute Book with gilt ruling metal hinges and posts about 9 X 12 inches. Marbled endpapers. 250 pages of which 224 pages have been used. The contents include minutes and financial statements from the Annual Meeting of the Stockholders reports each of which is followed by several Board of Directors meetings for that year ranging from years 1944-1965 when the company was dissolved dissolution documentation included. Each report is signed by the Secretary and President and dated. The first document is dated January 26 1944 and acknowledges the passing of Willard Burton on November 24 1943 age 93 with a resolution to be included in the minutes of the meeting. This meeting also announces by resolution the closure of the Dallas yard and establishment of the Houston yard as the principal place for the conduct of business. Presidents through the years included W.B. Ferguson W.B. Milstead J. Clyde Jones W.M. Lingo J.H. Robertson and W.M. Lingo Jr. The company's registered office address was changed to a Lake Jackson Texas address in 1964 just prior to the company's closing. Most of the annual meetings however took place in Dallas or Fort Worth. The Burton-Lingo Lumber Company was started in 1888 with Edward H. Lingo named as president and the name Lingo appears on the Board of Directors throughout the reports in this book. Willard Burton succeeded Lingo as president of the Burton-Lingo Company of Fort Worth and later founded the Burton Lumber Company with yards in Dallas and Houston. He was also president of the Kemp Lumber Company. He was one of the largest lumber dealers in Texas and a director in the Lumberman's Association of Texas. 0. Burton Lumber Corporation Hardcover‎

Contains approx 80-90 pages printed rectos only on thick card stock with silhouettes of naval war ships for France Germany England America and Italy. Notes and corrections in blue ink on many of the pages. Very Good light wear and soiling to covers. A book that was used to train French pilots to recognize battle ships by their silhouettes. ‎Catalogue of the Officers and Students of Harvard University for the Academical Year 1829-1830‎

‎Cambridge: Hilliard and Brown 1829. First Edition. Wraps. Good. 4-1/2 x 7" sewn plain-paper later wrappers pp. 24 wraps soiled the whole pamphlet faintly creased vertically but good and sound with intriguing pencil notations throughout see below. A straightforward listing of the adminstrators faculty and students under- and post-grad at Harvard in the fall of 1829 rendered interesting by the penciled notations on several of its pages. The flyleaf contains a name indecipherable to our eyes and a location Round Hill which was a short-lived 1823-1834 secondary school located in Northampton Massachusetts founded by George Bancroft and Joseph Cogswell on the European model particularly in the mode of the German 'gymnasia' to compete with existing academies such as Philips Exeter and Andover. Further penciled notes indicate which of the students had matriculated from Round Hill with a running tally 6 of 48 seniors 12 of 70 juniors 3 of 76 sophomores 3 of 55 freshmen. What about this makes our ears prick up Round Hill's demise was in no small part due to a conundrum its founders were unable to solve to wit: the education they provided was so superior that their students were TOO well prepared for college putting them directly in conflict with the admissions procedures at Harvard and Yale. While the Round Hill boys were already proficient in the Greek Latin and mathematics being taught freshmen and sophomores and even juniors at the ivies those institutions refused to allow the younger students to skip ahead unless they paid out of pocket for all four years of college. The economics were against the school -- either a Round Hill boy ponied up and spent two years cooling his heels until he learned something new or he went out into the world with the education but without the prestigious degree. The notations here suggest that someone in real time while Round Hill was still in existence was keeping score trying to make the argument. But in the end parents wearied of the inherent conflict and the preparatory schools which tailored their curricula to the university system won the day. Hilliard and Brown unknown books‎

Handwritten notebook with 16 additional daily accounts using "Lake Austin Woolen Mill" letterhead for this cheese factories daily tally. Ledger describes what seems to be a cheese co-op with dividends divided per day report of the season most milk received in one day June 16th - 9195 gallons days cheese was made per year 207 etc. Wells VT rests on the edge of Rutland county and in 1870 the populations total was 430 people. In the early 1800's a dam was built on Lake St. Catherine which enabled industry such as a woolen mill wood working shop and cheese factory to thrive.
