Mac, Alle / St Joseph County Federation Of Women's Clubs
True Tales of the Pioneers
Sturgis MI: The St. Joseph County Federation of Women's Clubs. Very Good. 1920. 1st Edition; 1st Printing. Stapled wraps. SIGNED EDITION. This copy has been signed by Alle Mac on the title page. This is an oversized booklet with cardstock covers and a stapled spine. The booklet is in Very Good condition and was issued without a dust jacket. The covers have some light bumping and edge wear to all edges and the spine. The text pages are clean and bright. There are two photographs tipped in - one to the front inside cover the other to the rear inside cover the first photo shows a crowd standing in front of the newly placed marker stone for pioneer park. There are also two newspaper clippings tipped in: the first is with the marker stone photo and explains about the marker and Pioneer Day. The second clipping is on the reverse of the preface and is a tribute to John Sturgis founder of the city of Sturgis. "In 1827 Judge John Sturgis came to the St. Joseph Valley area in southern Michigan territory and settled in what is now Sturgis. The original site of his home can be seen at Pioneer Park maintained by the City of Sturgis. Legend has it that Sturgis was chosen as the town's name because Mrs. John Sturgis baked a pan of biscuits and sent them to a surveying party near their cabin. Lewis Cass who later became governor was part of that surveying party. When the time came to name the town Governor Cass remembered the biscuits and was insistent that the town be named Sturgis. In 1896 Sturgis officially became a city. " from Wikipedia ; Signed by Author . The St. Joseph County Federation of Women's Clubs paperback
