Old paper label on spine with blue printed border and "232" in ink in the center. "118" written on front board. Front fixed endpaper bears oval bookplate of the Aimwell School Library. This was probably the school founded in 1796 in Philadelphia by three Quaker women. Originally called the Society for the Free Instruction of Female Children the name Aimwell School was adopted in 1807. The author's journeys included travelling up the Mississippi River from New Orleans to Natchitoches and later riding across Texas. Its translation into English provided one of the earliest descriptions of Texas in that language. See Howes P-13; no American edition is noted. Not in Early American Imprints ser. II Shaw-Shoemaker.
