‎China Trade SIGNED COPY‎

‎NY: St Martins Press 1994. 1st edition. Fine in dust jacket. SIGNED COPY. Author's first book in award-winning mystery series introducing Lydia Chin and Bill Smith. " It's always exciting to read the first novel of a newcomer with a distinctive voice and the talent to put a new spin on an established genre. Such is the case with this page-turning mystery introducing Lydia Chin a Chinese American private investigator living in New York City's Chinatown. When the Chinatown Museum is robbed of a set of rare porcelains the chair of the board of directors calls in her friend Lydia despite the opposition of Lydia's brother Tim a board member embarrassed by his sister's occupation not suitable for a respectable Chinese woman and afraid that her failure to solve the crime will make him lose face. Working with her sometime partner Bill Smith Lydia finds a connection between the shadowy underworld of the tongs Chinese gangs and the black market in stolen art which leads in turn to violence and danger--definitely unsuitable surroundings in the eyes of Lydia's family."--Booklist. Signed by Author. First Edition. Hard Cover. Near Fine/Near Fine. Book. St Martins Press Hardcover‎

‎Quato in pale yellow jacket; 244 pages ; 24 cm; bibliographical references (pages 223-228) and index. "David Rudgers, a twenty-two-year CIA veteran, has written an account of its creation, revealing how the idea of a centralized intelligence developed within the government and debunking the myth that former OSS chief William J. Donovan was the prime mover behind the agency's founding." "Creating the Secret State locates the CIA's origins in government-wide efforts to reorganize national security during the transition from World War II to the Cold War." "Based almost entirely on archival and other primary sources, Rudgers's book describes in detail how the CIA evolved from its original purpose - as a watchdog to guard against a "nuclear Pearl Harbor"--To the role of clandestine warriors countering Soviet subversion, eventually engaging in more forms of intelligence gathering and covert operations than any of its counterparts."--Jacket.
