"The contemporary inhabitants of the Point Reyes area at the time of European arrival were the Coast Miwok. 5 They left evidence of well over a hundred encampments on the peninsula with a population estimated to have been nearly 3000. Seasonal hunters and gatherers they were nourished by fish clams mussels and crab in addition to the deer elk bear mud hen geese and small game they hunted with spears and bows. The Coast Miwok utilized a variety of different plants growing at Point Reyes. Acorns served as a staple as they could be stored in dry granaries to provide sustenance when food was less plentiful. ‎THE ELK AND THE EVIDENCE: A Reverend Martin Buell Mystery‎

‎Garden City New York: Crime Club Doubleday 1952. First Edition so stated. Publishers orange weave cloth with green lettering. Pages are age toned else about fine in dust jacket $2.50 price intact small closed tear at rear soiled at rear panel and lightly sunned at spine. Very scarce title. Dust jacket illustration by Vera Bock. Although accustomed to many unusual presents from his parishioners the Reverend Martin Buell an Episcopal rector in Farrington Montana was slightly nonplussed when he unwrapped a gift elk roast and discovered in the package a neatly severed human toe. Then a visiting hunter was reported missing in the neighborhood and the Reverend had a hunch that the two incidents might be connected. Mystery multiplied with the sudden appearance of a strange but attractive young woman who had seen a dead man in a Pullman berth. And oddly enough her description of the corpse coincided with that of the missing hunter. As Martin pursued his private investigations of variant clues he laid himself open to wild rumor rebuke by his bishop misunderstandings from his friends and even personal peril. But after a series of dangerous adventures and humorous involvements he had the satisfaction of proving his original hunch correct when the elk roast provided evidence which trapped a killer. ‎Between Ideology and Realpolitik: Woodrow Wilson and the Russian Revolution 1917-1921‎

‎Westport CT.: Greenwood Press 1995. Comprehensive scholarly text presents a detailed interpretation of Wilson's Russian policy in which Schild challenges the belief that Wilson's reaction to the 1917 October Revolution was exclusively ideological. In contrast to the belief that when Wilson sent American troops to intervene in July 1918 his goal was to aid liberal groups in Russia and thus to establish a democratic order this book shows that his actions were more pragmatic. Wilson did indeed have a liberal anti-Bolshevik agenda. However his belief in the superiority of liberalism over totalitarianism was so strong that he expected democratic forces in Russia to take power without any outside aid. At the Paris Peace Conference he rejected all suggestions for a Western anti-Soviet crusade or for a division of Russia. His 1918 decision to intervene was not part of Wilson's ideological confrontation with the Bolsheviks. It was based on an effort to maintain unity with the British and French governments during the final phase of World War I. Wilson's Russian policy the author concludes was determined both by his ideological anti-Bolshevism and pragmatic demands for alliance cohesion. 173 pgs. Gilt spine and front cover. First Edition. Hard Cover. As New. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Greenwood Press Hardcover‎

‎L'Ere de Roosevelt. 1. La crise de l'ordre ancien, 1919-1933. 2. L'avènement du New Deal.‎
