Sawmills in the Redwoods Logging on the San Francisco Peninsula 1849-1967
San Mateo CA: San Mateo County Historical Association. Very Good. 1967. 1st Edition; 1st Printing. Hardcover. B&W Photographs; This book is in Near Fine condition and was possibly issued without a dust jacket. The book and its contents are in clean bright condition. There is some very beginning bumping and rubbing to the spine ends and corners of the book covers. The text pages are clean and bright. "Stanger believed that local history was interesting and important. He was actively involved with the San Mateo County Historical Association from its inception in 1935 serving as President of the organization from 1937 to 1941. Its aim was to "collect and preserve relics historical data and information about San Mateo County." In this he was a tireless advocate. He began collecting "stuff" even though there was no place at the time to keep it. Through his efforts the College of San Mateo made a former classroom available as a museum. This was located on Baldwin Avenue in San Mateo. From 1941 to 1964 Stanger was Director of the San Mateo County History Museum. He began a class on local history at the college and students wrote term papers often about relatives who were pioneers here. Photos and memories were collected in this way. These papers have been preserved in the archives of the Association." from the San Mateo Historical Museum website . San Mateo County Historical Association hardcover

Stanley Siegel
A Political History of the Texas Republic 1836-1845
Austin Texas: University of Texas Press 1956. BM5 - A first edition no additional printing hardcover book SIGNED and inscribed by Stanley Siegel to previous owner on the half-title page in very good condition in good dust jacket that is mylar protected. Dust jacket has wrinkling chipping crease some peeling and tears on the edges corners and sides scattered scratches rubbing scuffing light foxing and stains year written on the bottom spine tanning and shelf wear. Book has some bumped corners wrinkling on the spine edges foxing and some stains on the cover page edges and endpapers that is somewhat darkened light tanning and shelf wear. 9.5"x6.5" 281 pages. Satisfaction Guaranteed. This book is unique among the histories of the Texas Republic for it is the first book to examine the fledgling nation from the point of view of its dynamic political life. Previous books have touched on the policies of Houston Lamar and others but none has thoroughly explored the intricacies of the political conflict that was the Republic's heritage. Policies with far-reaching results were formulated in the nine years of Texas' independence and the author fully discusses the many thorny issues that were to plague Texas for generations. The political history of the Republic is one of strong figures vying with each other for popular support of their divergent policies. The author details the personal feuds and animosities that resulted and shows the effects of these differences on the governing of the nation. The history of independent nations always involves matters of foreign policy and Texas' early anomalous position among the family of nations is clearly outlined. The reader learns of the many futile attempts to secure recognition loans an armistice with Mexico and annexation to the United States. Although they were met on all sides with coolness ambivalence and rebuff the Texas diplomats' own words from official documents and private letters convey their sense of dedication. From the vantage point of time the immensity of what they were trying to accomplish is clear and this book presents both the glories and defeats of Texas' most fascinating period. Thoughtful use of diaries memoirs and other contemporary sources gives the reader an excellent understanding of the immediate sense of personal concern the citizens of the Republic felt toward the political issues of the day. Signed by Author. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. University of Texas Press Hardcover
