Lacking publication information but consistent with others in this series published by Hubbard in 1897. Contains 5 short tales about animal characters: The Quarrel -- The Wolf's First Party -- The Dissatisfied Owl -- The Squirrel's Visitor -- Meddlesome Pater. Based on 6 illustrations by Palmer Cox best known as the creator of the Brownie books. This was intended for use as a promotional booklet. The back wrapper has an illustration of a knight and jester holding a large broadside with a brownie peeking out from under it. In this case the broadside and the inside of the back wrapper have been filled in with advertising for Atmore & Son purveyor of plum pudding and mincemeat at 110 Tasker St. Philadelpha Pa. English immigrant Frederick B. Atmore was reportedly the first person to do make and sell mincemeat in the United States. After his death his son Robert E. Atmore established Atmore & Sons. In Good Condition: spine starting to separate at ends; opened carelessly with chip out of fore-edge of front wrapper with small loss of illustration and larger loss from fore-edge of 2nd leaf of text without impact on text or illustration; old stain along lower edge of wrapper and final 2 leaves and at lower end of gutter throughout; otherwise clean and bright. Cet ouvrage présente plus de quatre siècles d'histoire des armes sur le continent américain, depuis les mousquets à mèche des découvreurs jusqu'au Colt automatique du G.I. Toute l'évolution des armes produites aux Etats-Unis, avec des fiches sur les modèles des grandes marques et des armuriers moins connus. — Ce livre comprend deux volets. Le premier est consacré à l'évolution des armes à feu en Amérique du Nord, de l'origine de la colonisation jusqu'à la première guerre mondiale. One of the prior owners whose name is handwritten 3 times is "Alfred Balch Nashville". Balch was a close personal friend and neighboring plantation owner to President Andrew Jackson. He was a practicing lawyer in Nashville and eventually became head of the Nashville Bar Association. During Andrew Jackson's presidency Balch was appointed to the role of Commissioner of Indian Treaties. During this time he would be active in trying to resolve issues the Creek and Seminole tribes had with the United States government and may have helped resolve the Second Seminole War. Later in 1840 during the presidency of Martin Van Buren Jackson would pressure his former vice president to appoint Balch to the role of United States District Judge for the Middle District of Florida where he would serve as a Florida District Judge for only one year. In 1835 letters appear between Alfred Balch and Andrew Jackson suggesting a level of comfort that only friends would have with one another. In one letter Jackson seems to write angrily about a secret conspiracy to undermine his chosen successor Martin Van Buren. What evidence there is seems to suggest a very close relationship between Andrew Jackson and Alfred Balch.Balchepedia; the Encyclopedia of Balch History.
